Atelier serves a 12-course tasting menu every night, to every guest. We make substitutions to any dish for allergies, strong dislikes, and for vegetarians. The posted menu, as it changes frequently, may have slight variances to some dishes.

10 years of Atelier - what an accomplishment for Marc and his team! Had an enjoyable meal here for our own anniversary and the menu was put together by alumni of the restaurant from over the years. Way to go Atelier!

If anyone is interested, I did a photoshoot of the Atelier team in action last year... Impressive stuff!

For my birthday I often splurge on something special just for me. I had been planning to go in April since I heard about it. An intriguing concept and a stype of food I have NEVER had before. I often dine alone as my circle of friends is not very wide yet, and the few friends I have could not afford it. However, I had met a girl at a Food and Wine Group I attend occassionally and it was nice to share this experience with someone.

I opted for the wine pairing as well since my theory is go big or go home. I have a few new favourites for my repetoire.

My experience was amazing. There was quite a bit of seafood/fish on the menu - which was unexpected. ALthough there were some foods I normally snub my nose at, these were all expertly prepared. I still wouldn't go out of my way for something, however I'm glad I experinced them.

Oddly - the most memorable moment was my "shattered dreams" slightly morbid for a birthday but freeze dried cupcake is delicious.

I would go back for a special occassion - but would like to go at a different time of year when the menu would hopefully be quite different

There was a story on the Black Box Dinner on CBC Radio One this morning:

No need to heap more praise on this excellent restaurant.

We returned for our anniversary (3rd visit, but the last was 12 months ago). I only wanted to comment that I was cautioned by a colleague that he felt they had lost a step, and I was a bit concerned given how much my wife was anticipating our date.

But you shouldn't be. My wife and I both thought the the menu was just as creative as always and the execution was perfect. I miss the Elvis truffle, but definitely did not find the sweet side of the evening lacking in any way.

Also... new to us anyway, they offer a 1/2 wine pairing for $35. Great for the "designated driver". Steve was a little heavy on the pour... it is a little more like 3/4 pairing. But I didn't mind helping my wife with the extra 1/4.

(After saving up many pennies) I took my boyfriend here for his birthday.

It was everything and more than I ever expected. Definitely something everyone in Ottawa needs to try at least once. Or many times, if you have a nice supply of disposable income that is not yet a luxury of mine. ;)

I ate ice cream made of HAY. Like horses, HAY.

Wow.

I had my first experience at this unique eatery this spring and it was everything I expected.

Can't wait to go back and try out some new creations.

Thanks for the Christmas present Chantal!

Cheers

Recent posting covering our latest visit to Atelier.

Visited again after far too long, this time bringing my wife and some friends. We were thrilled!

There isn't much to say about the food because the menu changes quite often, except to say that the quality is uniformly high and each dish amazes you in some way.

I posted my poor photos to facebook to share with friends who might visit Ottawa sometime, but there's really no point in posting them here where there are already too many! Anyway, here's what I wrote there:

I label it as Ottawa's best restaurant because if you were visiting our city and could choose only one meal then this should be it!

It's a 12-course blind tasting menu, meaning you don't know what's coming next (the menu is presented at the end). The components of each dish are explained in detail upon presentation. Each plate is a symphony of perfectly tuned flavours and the only repeating ingredient you'll find is culinary genius!

The optional wine pairing adds a brilliant extra dimension to the hedonistic experience. The sommelier, Steve, is most personable and carries out his winy orations with a whimsical air. The Long Cow Sauvignon Blanc and the NV Cossart Gordon 5-Year Bual were my favourites from this wine list.

The true beauty of Atelier is that the food and service are impeccable but there is not even the tiniest hint of snobbery to the place. It has long been my observation that the pinnacle of competence is accompanied by humility, and the unpretentious perfection exhibited at Atelier fits that to a T.

Chef Marc Lepine opted to share some of his miracle fruit with his restaurant's New Years Eve diners. Pretty cool!

I am beyond picky. I am not adventerous, I don't eat vegetables and I even have a hard time with rare meat, Hence the name. Picky_Me

My wife Twosips is the foodie in our team. The opportunity for us to go to Atelier has come up twice and on this second occassion I just couldn't pass it up.

I can't share my experience in a review cause I don't write that well, but I went last night and was amazed at the stuff they come up with.

I loved everything about it (except maybe the pea soup) and can't wait to go back! My favorite dish last night was a toss between, the steak, lamb, or Tuna..

Wanted to say thanks for the photo's posted on here. I will enjoy showing them to my friends when I relate my experience. I tried taking photo's with my blackberry but the quality (without a flash) is just sad.
