Foods from Petit Bill's Bistro

Delicious basic burgery. First and foremost I must say that I love that atmosphere at Petit Bill's - Family run East coast charm. Food is consistent and tasty. They don't always have the biggest flavour explosion going on but a ever changing wine list combined with well portioned bistro grade comfort food, delightful desserts and service makes Bill's one of w.c.'s and my most visited lunch spots.

On this visit I opted for the basic burger (no frills - avoiding delish cheeses available for additional charge for dietary reasons) and it didn't disappoint. Toppings were fresh burger was homemade juicy and delicious with some delicate flavours. The bun was artisan quality soft and toasted nicely! Frites are always well done, crisp with a mayo on the side. I would have loved a house relish or pickle to take this upto the next level - but nonetheless I will be back! You can also see w.c.'s tasty french onion soup in the background that I found delish but she found a little salty. But she thinks everything is salty so I think for most the homemade onion beef stock with generous croutons and Gruyere is a classic take on this old fav.

Went for Lunch on Saturday for the first time. Oh man, it was so good. I had the wild mushroom mac and cheese, which was perfect. I can't believe how fast I managed to eat the entire plate.

I am definitely coming back soon.

I don't always review the food at places I eat. I eat here often enough that I should have done at least 4 reviews by now.

Petit Bill's has had a recent facelift in their bar area and it looks really great. There used to be this wall of boozes, but now it is a much less cluttered-looking section. I'm sure that the height-challenged owners appreciate it as well. ;) Sorry guys. I had to.

The food is always top notch. On the rare occasion that I've had a problem, it was always addressed immediately. I don't have any trouble mentioning when something isn't right.

I'm always amazed at the quantity and quality of food that comes out of that tiny kitchen. Amazed. For lunch, I tend toward the fish and it is always perfect. Perfect and lovely. Lovely little fish. The pasta dishes ... well, everything I've tried is great.

The wine list is colourful and changes with some frequency when a new item of interest comes up. There are a few local beers on tap.

One of the owners is the organizer of the Ottawa Whisky Festival in the fall and has a lot of interesting connections for concoctions, as you might imagine. Their barrel-aged Manhattan is out of this world.

What's not to love?

They do a lot in their community, and though I've yet to attend one of the Newfoundland dinners, I look forward to it when I get the next chance.

Ate at Petit Billís the other night. I was keen to try the Lobster Poutine. So now I have and can cross it off my list.

The fries at PB are good but the poutine was not that great. The mascarpone sauce was rich (no surprise) but incredibly overwhelming. The presence of lobster was very scant therefore not worth the $16. And what little lobster there was, it was (again) overwhelmed by the sauce.

The service was good so it definitely counted for something.

Went again to the Newfie Supper night (November edition). Started with the complementary bread with partridgeberry butter, and the Pea Soup with Dough Boys (pictured). I loved the Pea Soup; if I could just turn up with my thermos before work every day and buy some I would.

I went (again) with the Jiggs Dinner. I flirted with branching out and getting the Cod Au Gratin, but I couldn't pass up the chance of having some cheek-tingling salt beef, peas pudding, turkey with savoury dressing, veggies and pickled beets and mustard pickles.

I asked when the next one would be, and it won't be until April. I know I'll be back then, and hopefully before that to try out their regular menu.

Went there for lunch a week or so back and had a nice sandwich of the day which was fish sandwich which was a piece of fried cod(?) from the fish and chip in a bun with an aioli. I liked the possibility to get half fries and half salad.

But the star of the visit was the seafood chowder take away. I have tasted the seafood chowder but this was the first time I had a full bowl of it. Nice chunks of fish, mussels and seafood plus potatoes with a rich and creamy broth. It is better than the great clam chowder made with fresh clams I had in San Francisco back in Sept.

We're pretty proud of our 40 thumbs up, thanks everyone & to theup for getting us to this plateau..

Considering that 5 of the 10 thumbs down are from our first 4 months in operation (pre contruction) & the other 5 are through the past 5-6 years it's a testament to our great staff (post construction)

Went to Petit Bill's on Sunday for their Newfie Supper night. I had such an enjoyable experience! I miss traditional Newfie food so much but this brought me right back home!

The meal started with bread and mulberry butter. I started with the Pea Soup with Dough Boys and it was so flavourful. I wish I could have had more! My friend had the Cod Cakes, and I was impressed with the flavour in them. The cod cakes I had back home never tasted nearly as good. It really had to do with the added veggies in the cakes.

For my main, I had Jiggs Dinner. It's a traditional meal with salt beef, turkey, cabbage, potatoes, parsnips, turnip and peas pudding. After the salt meat, the peas pudding was my favourite. There were mustard pickles and beets included as well. I felt like I was back home!

My friend had the Cod Au Gratin, and it was a much classier, less greasy version of what I am used to in NL. I had a taste and I really enjoyed how the fish wasn't flaked into the sauce.

We didn't have dessert, but we did have wine. Our server was great at helping me pick out a wine. I'm a wine novice, and I had grown used to having a red with this dinner at home, but the matching wine list to the meal listed a white. She helped pick a great tasting wine, which I can't remember the name of!

This wasn't my first time at Petit Bills, and it certainly won't be my last.

Went back to Petit Bill's last weekend as I was having a craving for the wonderful lobster poutine. Again I was very happy with my meal. I started with the lobster poutine and savoured every mouthful. My dining companion had the soup of the day which I believe was a cold potato and leek soup. She is pretty picky with soup and declared that her soup was delicious. I had the Sea Scallops seared in maple syrup, butter, and bacon. So good! I could taste every layer of flavor. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the salad that came with the scallops was very refreshing. The companion had the Mediterranean Chicken. She liked the meal but still misses her favourite dish which is not available on the summer menu. We did not have room for dessert this time but will probably indulge next time we visit. I was going to introduce myself to Terry, but he was taking a rare well deserved night off.

Being in the neighbourhood to pick up my luggage, I was at both Petit Bill's and Supply and Demand last night.

I was there pretty early since I really need that luggage and Capital City Luggage closes promptly at 6pm.

Had scallops and something else the last time I was there so ended up going for the fish and chips since Surian's picture looked really good.

It was 1 large piece and 2 small pieces (so equivalent to 2 large pieces) of fish with a fluffy and crispy batter and a delicate and tasty cod inside. The remoulade was tasty and I also used some of it for the fries which was crisp and thin which I liked. No need to post a picture since mine looked just like Saurian's photo.

The only things that was so so is the coleslaw which had a mustard type dressing and the liquid from the coleslaw ran a bit into the fries next to them and made them a bit soggy by the end when I got down to that.

The fish and chips is also on offer as part of the 3 course $30 Feb menu and $40 Feb menu with the chowder, steak frite or salmon and dessert of chilli chocolate cake looked very interesting. End up passing since that is a lot of food when I am making 2 stops.

Absolutely love the lobster poutine! A great deal for the money and very tasty!

My husband and i had a lunch today.
We heard about Petit Bill's has a reputation but food was disappointed.
I started with beets salad that it wasn't reasonable price, yellow beet was over over cooked and i paid $14.
We studied at Le cordon bleu, many friends recommended and they likes Lobster poutine.
It was soggy fries with broken sauce. I could taste any of Mascapone flavors. It was pretty gross.
I believe that ratings can be very deceptive.
But waitress was nice otherwise pricey and nothing special.

What more can I say that other's haven't already said? Lobster, on mascarpone cheese sauce, on fries, with lobster butter drizzled over top. I put some fresh ground pepper on mine to add a bit of zing, the only thing that could make this dish better would be... some fresh shaved truffles!

Lobster poutine: Chunks of lobster, broiled in butter with marscapone cheese sauce on top of delightly crispy yet tender shoestring fries. I first thought that the delicate flavour of the lobster would be overshadowed by the other flavours but boy was I wrong. This dish is amazing. Try it, that's all I can say.

They served Clocktower beer on draught here, a pale ale, apparently. I thought it was unusual to see their beer in an establishment other than their own, not necessarily an unwelcome addition! Very cool to see!

My partner and I got a pair of Bill's Burgers on a recent visit, and we both thought it was outstanding-- near, if not at the top of our list of Ottawa burgers. Definitely beats out a couple more expensive options elsewhere in town.

Super friendly service and owner, too. Have to make a point to come here more often.
