My wife ordered half rack of beef ribs. These guys must have been smoked for a looooong time, very predominant smoke with a coffee crusted BBQ sauce and tender. She loved them. A tad on the sweet side for me but that could be a combination of the richness of the rib itself along with the sauce. If your a beef rib fan these are a must try!

Deep fried pickel spears. Nice tangy dill with crunch to start off.

Second visit was as good as the first. Glad to see consistency. Had jerk chicken and side ribs. Chicken was amazing with nice smoke and a jerk seasoning that was so tasty with nice heat a tang and spice background to finish Yummm! Pictured quarter chicken. I may not look like much but it was a burst of flavored goodness.

The SmoQue Shack currently has Mill Street stout on tap. Mmmmmm.

They were out of sweet potato fries at 6:30pm on a Monday. Gasp! The regular fries cannot compare. Theirs is the only sweet potato fries I will eat, and happily so.

The Brisket tonight was a mix of the saucy tender chunks with some decidedly firm (but not tough) segments. All delicious. I left the mac n cheese to cool down a bit and let the cheese sauce coagulate on the bottom of the plate. Sometimes it's wonderful just as it comes out (usually when I'm in a group) and sometimes it's 'saucy' (usually when I'm alone). Always tasty so far.

Finally made it out and really enjoyed the food here. Personally, the Jerk chicken and Mac and Cheese (only $3.50?? Really?) were highlights for me, although everything I tried was certainly enjoyable and very tasty.

Brisket wasn't exactly what I expected - saucy, slightly sweet fork tender chunks of beef rather than the dry rubbed slices of beef I imagined, but it was very good and further I am not an expert in American style BBQ at all.

Great beer selection. It was absolutely hopping on a Friday evening, which is great to see in Ottawa.

I saw plates of wings at other tables that looked really, really good to me as I love wings. I think they were deep fried and left crispy, not sauced directly, I'd like to check them out next time.

Enjoyed the full and hearty flavour of the pulled pork bun, found the seasoning pre-added to the french fries too salty.

Had a great lunch here today. I had the pulled pork sandwich with tangy coleslaw on top and deep fried pickles on the side. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu! I love the Ontario Craft Beer on tap also!

I went there last night and had a massive yet tasty meal. The sampler platter is not for the faint of appetite. So much meat that I am uncomfortably full more then 12 hours later. Delicious though!

You definitely have to try the deep fried pickles, if you havn't done so before.

Dear Ken - Re: those pics and that review.
Please be advised that my arteries HATE you.

Tnx,

Wifey and I finally visited on a Saturday night. It's casual inside and the food value is good. We shared a bunch of appetizers and sides and had a one-person 3-meat combo plate as follows:

* Caesar Salad - Tasty all around, generous croutons, and amazing chunks of smoky bacon.
* Baby Back Ribs - Good chewy texture, pretty decent smoke flavour.
* Beef Brisket - Tender, not a lot of smoke taste, I didn't like the sauce.
* Jerk Pork - Tasted like an oven-roasted pork loin, chopped up and tossed with a homemade jerk sauce with good heat. Again, this sauce was not to my taste. We actually left it.
* Mac and Cheese - Really nice, browned on top, macaroni not overcooked, and with tasty cheese.
* Corn Bread - Surprisingly not too sweet but a little dryer than I like. Would benefit from a dab of butter or a sauce worthy of dipping.
* Southern Greens - My favourite dish by far! Tender, tasty greens in a flavourful sauce, adorned with generous hunks of smoky bacon. Spectacular!

The Chicken and Waffles ($12) looked pretty amazing. Generous boneless chunks of (mostly) moist breast meat started out promising but suffered from a strangely bland but delightfully crunchy breading. I dipped them into the sauce of my Southern Style Greens ($5.50) to make them nice. The waffle itself was a hearty cornmeal one that needed dipping in the sweet apple-tinged syrup before eating. Nestled amongst the chicken pieces was a thick slab of icing sugar doused butter that also helped lubricate the waffle.

My palate was uncomfortably confused by the icing sugar on the chicken and the sliced scallions with syrup. Some people might like these combinations more than I do, so please accept my discomfort with appropriate skepticism.
