Hi guys,

Many thanks for pointing this vendor out, I had given up on finding a proper poutine in Ottawa. I stand corrected.

It was everything it should be, very welcome on a slightly hungover day...

Had a chili cheese dog here on the weekend - the chili was unexpectedly spicy (in a good way, not overkill at all, just right)! Had lots of chunks of meat, lots of flavour. The dog itself was steamed, I think - would have been better if it was cooked on the flattop or a grill to get a little crispy. Overall though, I will be back to fulfill my next chili cheese dog craving! Oh yeah, the fries here are quite good as well (a small order was enough to split between me and my partner), not that I need to endorse that or anything based on the number of people lining up to get their orders of fries, poutine, etc. It's a regular stop for many, from what I could see!

After some running around last night I saw the big red Crispy Chips wagon and pulled in to see Eric in the trailer and felt confident. I was not disappointed. The same delicious poutine I had come to know and love form JP's was served up. The pogos were also very good.

LMFAO sry it will be "CRISPY CHIPS" not fries still used to the old name of fries i guess. See you all soon The fry guy Eric

Hey! so you know the trailer at merivale & hunt club will be called Crispy Chips and will be operated by Eric (the prince of fries) JP 's son,and will open March 01/09. The old man JP (the king of fries) will be running a new trailer at Baseline & Clyde in April. There will be differences in the menus so make sure you try them both, and of course you will still get the best food & greatest service from either location .Believe me

Well folks the time is come and JP's is re-opening for another year except with a few changes. Some of you may know that the real JP's had switched locations to Clyde and Baseline last year. Well this year we will BE BACK AT Canadian Tire on Merivale & Huntclub with the addition of a new wagon going up to Clyde and Baseline again. The one on Clyde will not be open till around beginning or mid April but the one on Merivale will be open March 1st. With this new year another change will be our company name. Due to some things we will be changing the name to "CRISPY FRIES" but it will still be run by the original JP's crew. And yes i will be bringing my old man the real JP out of retirment here and there lol. So Please stop by and see us and let everyone know about our 2 locations:

1- Merivale & Huntclub(Canadian Tire)
2- Clyde & Baseline (Value Village)

Thank You all for keeping us going and voting for us to be the best. We take pride in making your stop the best one. Cheers All

Food&Think- I am actually an ex-Winnipegger- I am used to Old Country Sausage hotdogs.

I glad that you note that the sausages are the things to order because I foolishly keep ordering hot dogs with the hope that someone will make a decent dog.

Last truck I was at, I waivered on a Polish sausage, then stupidly went with the hot dog only to be let down...

Pan Bagnat - I am going to wager that you are an ex-Montrealer... because it seems to be a common complaint amongst us that we can't find a decent "steamie" in Ottawa.

Seems to be that the chip trucks are more geared to serving up sausages with their french fries (even finding a decent hamburger, can be an issue).

The poutine was great, but so far, none of the chip trucks that I have tried have had very good hot dogs.

I found the staff at this truck very friendly!

As we enjoyed our poutine and hot dog, the health inspector arrived. All I saw her doing was what looked like negotiating freebies from the back of the trailer -- a good sign for JP and all his fans!

stopped by a couple times this summer and would agree their fries have changed slightly. Ken V mentioned a thinner cut, but when i compare photos the fries look the same size. they are, however, noticeably crispier and not as 'fluffy' as they used to be.

don't get me wrong - this is still a very solid poutine with tasty gravy and a good curd:fries ratio - but i really hope they didn't jump the shark and start cutting corners on fry prep or choice of potato...

My boyfriend is a poutine/french fry connoisseur, and while I tend not to indulge often, having tasted the glory of LaFleur's poutine out of Montreal, I am pretty critical of what Ottawa has to offer.

Crispy Chips good. Really good. "The connoisseur" claims it to be the best he's ever had, and I have to say this one ranks high on my list as well.

I've tasted their poutine from the Hunt Club/Merivale location a couple times this year, and was very impressed; the gravy had a great taste, the fries were (as the name suggests) crispy, but not overly so, and they don't skimp on the cheese curds which is often a problem elsewhere. I've only tried it once from the Value Village spot, but I was equally impressed.

Clog your hearts out friends, this place is worth it.

Pigurd (RFD? lol) - yes, they usually close up shop for the winter.

this is only open beginning of march?

Fresh Foodie took me here on a recent visit to Bytowne and I'm very happy to be able to post a OF comment after two years of abstinence.

Great fries, perfect gravy with enough flavour but not too heavy, and curds, curds, curds. After my dear bro and family, this poutine would be the next best reason to move back to Ottawa.

Had a poutine today at JP's and it was good as usual. There was loads of cheese curds, almost as much cheese as fries in the box! The fries seemed a but on the crispy side compared to normal, but were still quite tasty.

But sssshhhhhh.... let's stop promoting it. The lunch hour line-ups are getting too long! ;-)

Like pizza is to the Newport Restaurant, poutine is to JP's! This little clogged artery piece of heaven is poutine fantasia. I LOVE JP's poutine, best anywhere, period.

My favourite Poutine in town. Lots of cheese curds and a nice light gravy.

Back to the standard Medium Poutine. We just had to go twice in one month, seeing as they close for the winter on Dec 1. I had my real camera with me this time so the picture looks phenomenal at full resolution -- great desktop wallpaper! ;-)

If you love poutine you owe it to yourself to try this place!

WOW.... Had my first box of fries/chips from JP's today (Yes... the Baseline/Clyde location) .... and boy-oh-boy I never had such good fries since my visit to Sheila's Canteen.

She is located at a beach just southwest of Halifax NS. Near Hubbards on St Margaret's Bay. She gave me three pieces of fried haddock when I only ordered two. Sheila said "One of the pieces looked a little small so I gave you three".

Took me two hours of swimming in the Atlantc ocean to burn off the fish and chips.

The fries at both locations are good and crispy AND they taste like potatoes. Go figure ... french fried potatoes tasting like ... potatoes.

PS: The pic was taken by me while on vacation a few years ago.
