I just want to say that Marysol and her staff continue to make some of the best if not THE best brunch and lunch fare in the city. With a sense of home cooked familiarity and a dash of refinement, it is one of my favourite places to eat. Today I particularly enjoyed an apple pecan bun that was quite delicious. Additionally, their coffee is some of the best in the city. Love Edgar! Also, their patio opens SOON.

Finally made it out to Chez Edgar - although not before opening, so even on a day of -30 temperatures, had to wait roughly 20 mins. As most reviewers comment, the Dutch baby really is fantastic. But the Lemon Beignet I took home for the next day - oh my god.

Superb food as always!

Guedille de crevettes (Shrimp roll) Everything about this sandwich was great. I wasn't sure about the dill pickle chips on top but it was a great topping. gave some crunch and flavor to the sandwich.

Veggie panini was good as always.

Banana and caramel brioche for dessert.

Never let down by this place.

Brunch is two meals, right? So dessert isn't really optional. This pistachio, fig, walnut, and honey brioche was just the thing to stuff myself so I could skip lunch completely. Gooey without being overly sweet, studded with nuts and little chunks of dried figs. Really nice!

I arrived around 9:20am on Sunday, ten minutes before opening. I was probably 18th in line or so, which means I didn't have to wait for a seat. Much later than that and you'll probably have to wait, but the turnover is pretty quick so likely not for too long.

Missladi, I know how you feel. I too love the food there but have stopped going there completely as we found we usually can't get a seat and living in Ottawa, take-out doesn't work very well for us. That said, I am happy they are doing so well, as they are so nice and the food is so very good. Maybe we will get lucky and one day they will open a bigger place.

Edgar will be featured on "You Gotta Eat Here" on the Food Network tomorrow, Friday, 22 February at 9 pm.

Every single thing I've ever had at Edgar tasted, looked and smelled AMAZING. I've been there at least 30 times, had different sandwiches, soups, brunches, desserts, ready-to-cook. The mac n'cheese is particularly decadent. This place makes some of the best food in the entire Ottawa-Gatineau area.

That being said, though, it's so busy on weekends it's almost impossible to get a spot. I do like how small and quaint it is, but I'm selfish and would also like them to have a bigger restaurant so I wouldn't have to get take-out every time I plan to go. There is no room to wait for a table either. You have to stand in front of the menu board, about 3 inches away from people who are rightfully trying to enjoy their meal.

Picked up a few sandwiches at Edgar and was mightily impressed.

We got: the asian pork sandwich, the grilled veggie sandwich and the chicken caesar sandwich.

The bread on all three was knockout. The flavouring of the asian pork sandwich was surprisingly authentic from the bite I managed to steal, but my dad liked it so much that was all I managed to garner.

The grilled veggie sandwich was my favourite. The goat cheese paired very nicely with the chipotle mayo and grilled veggies and the texture of the bread really became apparent with all the saucey-ness going on in this sandwich.

The chicken caesar sandwich was also quite good, but not my favourite. Nothing wrong with it, it just didn't knock my socks off.

The Edgar square on the other hand, totally did. Definitely going back for one of those.

Service was friendly but hectic. They told us to wait outside and they'd call us up when our food was ready but they never called us. We ended up waiting far too long because we didn't realize our food was ready. Other than that, no complaints.

Also, the park is a nice short walk away and we spent a fantastic afternoon sitting by the water eating our sandwiches.

I was finally able to try brunch here today, as my young family and I could sit outside with the weather being good. I ordered the huevos rancheros, which were so yummy and satisfying, while my husband and son both had Dutch Babies stuffed with apples and cheddar. I could easily have eaten one of each dish, but restrained myself to stealing bites from my son's Dutch Baby. I also had a bite of the mango/ginger scone, which was delicious - good obvious ginger flavour and nice large pieces of mango. My decaf latte was really good too. What a great little place. I actually used to live right around the corner from here when I first moved to the area and find myself on the one hand wishing Edgar had been there there at that time and on the other hand grateful that it wasn't (as I was young and poor and would have spent entirely too much money).

I had a fantastic veggie panini here last week. Cheddar jalapeno bread, warm goat cheese, and incredible roasted tomatoes stand out in my mind. I'm still thinking about how good that sandwich was. I'll be trying their brunch and take home items next.

My wife and I still love to come here whenever we get a chance, as the brunch offerings are always interesting and always excellent! If you happen to find the lemon/lime square when you're there, be sure to try it... incredible!!

Pork schnitzel, potato, sauteed cabbage and pork belly with a smoked broth and two poached eggs! Another outstanding dish from Edgar. One thing I love about Edgar is their creatively persistent use of cabbages. They always seem to deliciously incorporate this typically boring vegetable into some of the best dishes I've ever experienced. Yum.

Truly outstanding Dutch baby! Edgar continues to produce some of the best dishes in the area and the Dutch baby is no exception. The pork belly, cheese and apple combo is incredible! Though I did find the dish to be just on the edge of too sweet, if you plan your bites right you will be rewarded with an amazing balance of sweet/salty/smokey/rich/tart flavours.

"Pea Meal" — incredibly delicious dish of chard, Brussels sprouts with smoky pork belly and mustard seed, giant potato croquette, thick pea meal bacon, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce! My wife said this was her absolute favourite of all Marysol's amazing dishes over the years. From what I tasted, I think I agree!

We arrived at 10:10, just after opening (probably the least strategic arrival time possible) and we were seated half an hour later. That people are willing to wait outside in the cold, or stand shoulder-to-shoulder inside, is a testament to the quality and uniqueness found on each plate. In my books this continues to be the Ottawa area's best brunch.

"Mijoté" — a wonderfully delicious brunch plate of stewed tomatoes, onions, peppers, and Italian sausage, tender kale, breaded eggplant, buffalo mozzarella, panini toast, and of course two perfect poached eggs!

When I saw Marysol post on Instagram that one of this weekend's dishes contained chanterelles I had no choice but to visit. What a beautiful dish this was! And it tasted wonderful too. Emmenthal and scape strata, with chard, double-smoked lardons, chanterelle mushrooms, poached eggs, and parmesan.

Excellent!

With both kids at a play date, wifey and I jumped at the chance to get a late brunch. It was still busy when we arrived at 1:30 but we were somehow seated without a wait.

The food was as great as ever! I had the Dutch Baby and also pilfered some of the sumptuous duck from my wife's amazing dish. As usual, Marysol's ingredient combinations are quite magical.

The Dutch Baby and the Heuvos Rancheros have been on the menu for a long time, while the third dish keeps changing. Highly recommend this "third dish" if you can get there in the near future.

I took a salted caramel cookie to go, and two "Mini Eggs" cookies for the kids. Rave reviews all around!

Here is a picture of the wonderful Dutch Baby. Apples, strong cheddar and pork belly on a fluffy round crepe.

I had to try the Dutch baby. It was apples, pork belly and huge chunks of hard cheddar on a big round fully crepe. The pork belly was slightly crisp on the outside and moist. The cheddar and the pork balanced the sweetness of the apples and the pancake crust was SO fluffy and slightly eggy. I need to learn how to make this kind of pancake.

My husband had the Lumberjack breakfast (pictured) which was also a perfect breakfast plate. He made me try a bit of everything on his plate and had a grin throughout his entire meal which is the first time I have seen him like this during a meal! The dish consisted of sausages, maple candied double smoked bacon, red turnip, 2 poached eggs covered in a salty herb sauce, baked beans, fingerlings potatoes, pouding chômeur and toasts. He loved every bite!

Yes, there will be a wait. We have been at the door before and had to leave because we did not have the time to wait. But was it worth it? YES! A truly original breakfast. We also bought a few pastries to go and those were very good, in particular, the lemon beignets.

Another rave for the Huevos Rancheros!! My takeout order, plated at home, is pictured. This meal was a simply delicious combination of flavours. The potatoes, as noted, were perfect.

I heard so many compliments from other customers as I waited for my food and I was sorely tempted by all the baked goods on display at the counter. This is a great place to visit.

This gorgeous little thing is like the love child of a three-way between a home made cinnamon doughnut, pound cake, and lemon meringue pie. There's a hint of tangy lemon curd inside that plays wonderfully with the dense cake and the light cinnamon sugar crust.
