The menu describes them as Black Bean Chili Nachos - Tri-coloured nacho chips, tomatoes, onions and peppers, three cheeses, salsa fresca, lettuce and lime sour cream with spicy black bean chili.
These babies come stacked high... Just like the photo. I thought they were ok (but then again, I'm not a big fan of tri-coloured nacho chips, and even less so of black beans). "The Man" thought they were great... he especially liked all the toppings that aren't always the norm... such as the lettuce. They also came with a blob of guacamole, which although pictured in the menu wasn't in the write-up.
We are split on this one... I don't think I'd order them again, whereas he probably would.
;-P
A lunch of Small Nachos ($9) and a Small Salad ($5) seemed to make sense, but it was a lot of food! The salad gave me something to eat while the nachos cooked.
The nacho toppings of beans, chopped tomatoes, peppers, and cheese were great, as was the side of guacamole. The chips aren't really the kind I like, so I probably won't get this again. As always, I squirted on a combination of the wonderful sauces on offer to keep things delicious.
The pulled pork nachos were really nice--the pork is much tastier than the chicken. Condiments are now served on the side and the tiny jalapeño peppers are good!
At $16, these "pulled chicken nachos" are some of the priciest nachos in town but I bet they're also the biggest. I'm tired of seeing a skimpy flat portion of nachos for north of ten bucks (The Brew Table I'm looking at you).
I tasted one and found it to be the delicious tender-crisp kind of tortilla chip I like so much. It will be hard not to order this on my next visit. I would have to wear my eating pants.
1/2 order of 1/2 eaten nachos. If you are into generous toppings and a conservative use of salsa, the nachos here are a good option. The avocado and black beans are a nice touch. I always order without the black olives.
We ordered the chicken nachos, they come with the dark & light nacho chips. Toppings were the standard mix of things. Nothing new, interesting or tasty here. Might be the WORST nachos I've ever had.
The pizza is okay, but the nachos are atrocious! They put PIZZA sauce on top of the chips and then put mozzarella on top of that. I have never seen any place even remotely come up with something as gross as this. And on top of that, they cost &8.95. Rip off!
Best Nachos in Ottawa! Even if everything else sucks... Get it if you love your nachos absolutely covered in meat and cheese. Hard to finish solo. Drinks are decent, they make a great zombie!
The worst nachos I have ever eaten. DO NOT order nachos. Basically a plate of chips piled high with some cheese and chili poured on top. Sloppy/messy, tasteless, and VERY EXPENSIVE.
best nachos I've ever had. I think they stay crisp because they deep-fry the chips. just my personal theory though. will be going back here for more nachos and irish car bombs in the near future :)
Highlander's nachos are a little different from the usual, in that they drizzle a little ranch dressing over them before serving. Makes for an interesting flavour. I also like how their chips usually stay pretty crisp while you're eating; at most places, they use so much salsa that the chips get goopy and soft part way through eating.
These are pretty standard Ottawa nachos -- a layer of chips, a layer of salsa, another layer of chips, and a topping of cheese. Not what I consider top notch nacho structure but it's normal for this part of the world. At least they load it up with jalapeños.
The thing to rave about here is the price. Six bucks is an awesome price for a plate of nachos. Sure makes you want to drink more beer!
Finally, an Ottawa restaurant that understands that salsa has no place in nachos! You won't find the pathetically soggy salsa-laden chips in this dish like you do in most places here.
Sadly, the chips aren't the greatest (thick and greasy) and I like to have black olives and jalapeños cooked with my nachos. Cheese is generous and the nachos are perfectly baked.
These still looked good from a distance. ;-) But close up, I could see the salsa was doing its usual Ottawa soggy thing to the chips. The cheese wasn't very tasty and there were far too many of the bland red tortilla chips.
However, this was the choice I made for lunch so I had to eat the whole plate! I'd think about getting these for 4-6 people to share as an appetizer but they aren't good enough to be a meal for one.
