Went today with some colleagues. I had the "Oy Vegg" - two eggs served with potato latkes and grilled tomato. The latkes were essentially McDonalds hash browns. What a disappointment. Also, I learned that the default poached egg here is a medium, so request soft if you want them runny. I tried a taste of the hollandaise sauce from a friend and it had this odd flavour to it. Couldn't trace it, but not good. Bleh. I don't know if I'll be back.
Will not be back for a few reasons: The breakfast was overpriced. The wait was long (but usually I don't care if it's worth it). And something about the ambiance was just lacking. I just can't quite put my finger on it -- perhaps it was the chairs, as per BigMouth's comment below? The food wasn't bad or anything, it just wasn't that good. I guess you could say my Eggspectations might have been a little too high.
I love this restaurant! Every time I visit Ottawa, it is an absolute must that we come here. I always get the Yoke Around The Clock and my friend always gets the Chicken Crepes. Sure there is a line-up on a weekend, but that's to be expected isn't it?
The service is great and friendly and the restaurant has a really cool feel to it.
I had occasion to have sunny side up eggs twice here in the past 2 weeks and both time they rocked the house! They were perfectly cooked, nice runny yolks that oozed all over the plate, just the way they ought to be. Great atmosphere too and friendly staff complemented the whole eggsperience.
I went here with visiting family and friends on Saturday morning. What a terrible mistake. After ordering our coffee, tea, etc and waiting for 15 minutes for it to show up the waitress came over and informed our table that the resturant ran out of coffee cups and our drinks would be there shortly. They showed up 15 minutes later. She took our order at that time but it took us over 45-50 minutes to get our food! As someone already mentioned on this forum, the chairs were uncomfortable and the smokers in our group became very antsy during the wait. The one nice thing was that the waitress gave us free toast after about 40 minutes but as many of us ordered the very simple "all american" breakfast the free toast was not enough. My sister's boyfriend kept making jokes about going to the hotdog vendor outside to get a faster breakfast. When our food arrived my latkes looked like hashbrowns and the melon slices that everyone got were not quite ripe.
It's hard to pay attention to the food since their chairs are the worst!!! That place is just a chiropractor's dream -- stomping ground for new clients.
Needless to say, I cringe at the idea of going there to eat.
