Can't say I'm sad to see them go. I ate at this restaurant once. That was enough. We sat near the stairs to the washroom and you could smell the urinals. My kabab was dry and tasteless not to mention small.

Paella is very easy to make... and so darn delicious. Best Paella I had was in this dive in Valencia.

Oh. Dear. That's a sad pity. I'll have to learn to make my own paella... *sigh*

Any rumours as to what might go into this Bank & Gladstone site? Let's start one -- wouldn't it be interesting if Whalesbone expanded?

This was my first foray into Spanish cuisine and everything was really tasty and beautifully plated. A group of five of us split three tapas and two mains: the Valencia Paella (chicken and seafood) and the pork with fig sauce. Both dishes were amazing, I especially recommend the pork with figs...an interesting combination. The Tapas were really good as well (except they were rather pricey). The beef skewers and the Spanish tortilla were both very tasty and easily split among the five of us. The olive plate was nice, but you have to examine what you are eating (some were stuffed with garlic and some were stuffed with fish, hard to decipher until its in your mouth). I cant wait to go back again and sample some more of the tapas. Great food and well worth the high price.

I wish more people knew about this place. I've been going to Don Alfonso's since I was a kid and I can't remember one disappointing meal. The paella is absolutely wonderful and the staff are always courteous and friendly.
However, the prices are a little too high for me to go there frequently. Maybe in a few years! :)

I ate here quite a while ago, but I remember that the food (with the exception of the gazpacho) and the service were outstanding. I really should go back soon!

I was in Don Alfonso's restaurant for the first time last week. A spanish restaurant is a rarity unfortunately. Even if it's obscured by its shining neighbour Whalesbone restaurant, It was a good surprise: nice atmosphere, friendly service without any pressure on the customers, good soundtrack with a flamengo band (on Thursday). Their tapas were good (very tasty as my grandmother homemade style!). My calamari red soup with saffron was delicious since the fishes were fresh and tender. Wide selection of paellas, but personally I suggest their paella Valenciana, icon of the Spanish Costa del Azahar Region. Prices are not so high. Nice place for a casual supper.

Good selection of Spanish wines from the best Regions( Penedes, Catalonia, Rueda, Rioja, Rias Baixas, La Mancha, Valencia, etc.). To try expecially red wines from typical Spanish grapes: Tempranillo, Carinena, Garnacha, Monastrell. Unfortunately there are not so many white wines. Good selection of fortified wines, Sherry is the king here with its different styles: Fino, Manzanilla, Amontillado ans Oloroso. To try even the Spanish traditional method Sparkling Wine: Cava.

I have started popping in on Thurs/Fri for lunch, simply to grab a big bowl of gazpacho. I've eaten a lot in my time, and this is just as good as it is in Spain.

Way too much onion for my taste. I love tomatoes but the amount of onion made it inedible - but then again, I never eat raw onions...
