A Schwäbisch specialty from southern Germany, this is basically Germany's answer to poutine. It is spätzle (an egg pasta) layered up generously with grated hard cheese and topped with sauteed onions. It is eaten generously seasoned with black pepper.

Went to the New Dubrovnik last night (i.e. a Sunday) for dinner and asked for kässpätzle with my meal. Was told that the spätzle is all prepared beforehand. Perhaps this means that you have to call ahead, or go on an off-night where the spätzle is made-to-order?

Make sure to ask for it like that since it only comes "plain vanilla" with some of the main dishes.

That sounds freakin' delish. I must try it. Reminds me, I think I have a New Dubrovnik Entertainment coupon to use... shizzle my kässpätizzle!

Actually, that sounds pretty much exactly like it!

Croatian restaurant New Dubrovnik (New Dubrovnik ) has spatzle as a choice of side. It's topped with grated brick cheese and a mushroom-wine sauce (close to a gravy?)

Not exactly what you're looking for but it's the first place that came to mind...
