Here is the State Fair Chicken Sauce that was mentioned by blubarry back in March, 2011.
Looked strange ... kinda like a suspended emulsion. Just weird.
State Fair also has Spiedie Sauce as well.
Anyone ever had Spiedie ? What's it like ? I think I wanna try it.

UTZ potato chips are a NY thing - didn't they feature in an episode of "Mad Men"? I don't think they are much different than regular chips, but if you can find the San Rio Tortilla chips they are way better than the more commercial stuff like doritos, and about a third the price. They are usually on a bottom shelf. HFF I have never had to pay any duty. I show the receipt and if they are in a good mood they'll just wave you through. But I do think they are allowed to charge taxes if they feel like it. And I do like the donuts at the Price Chopper in Oggie. If they ever have big round ones with pink icing and a blob of whipped cream in the center, go for it. I think they are called "headlights" and they have lovely sweet cream inside. The pink ones have sweet cream, while the others may have a boston cream type filling which is not my favorite. And if you're hungry while your're shopping, the fresh fish department will fry or steam anything in their cases for you.

A reasonable amount of groceries seem be permitted duty and HST free. Although the hard and fast rule is: If a traveler is in the US less than 24 hours there is no personal exemption on any goods imported.
But in practice, that does not seem to be the case. I have never paid any duty/HST on any groceries and have brought back up to $90 by myself.
Has anyone paid on groceries ? If so, how much groceries an travelers were there ?
Rarely does one have to pay any duty on anything. Just HST (13%). Thanks to Free Trade Agreement.
Just keep receipts for non-grocery stuff and declare everything at "check point Charlie".
Quite often one is waived through and no HST is collected whatsoever.... on anything. Can't figure out who gets pulled over to pay and who gets through scott free.

No duty/taxes on groceries (food) if you buy cleaning products etc, they can be subject to duty. Border guards will look at the bottom of your receipt and if there is a line line for NY sales tax, they could send you into pay.
Coconut custard pie is more or less coconut cream pie.
Utz remind me more of Hostess chips.
The bagels are NY style as opposed to the Montreal style, my favourite is the everything. A 2nd vote for the doughnuts.
As an ex-pat - I look for the things that I can't get in here, like Jif Peanut butter

OSoloMeal, I've seen big bottles of chipotle (pro tip: all chipotle is smoked) Tabasco around town, I think most recently at Bread & Sons -- maybe stop by and find out where they're getting it? They had a handful of various Tabascos I've not seen anywhere else.

@Ken - I may be mixing and matching a few places in my head so don't hold me to this, and maybe call ahead because i'm certain at least one of them carried it and then stopped.... but Herb and Spice, the organic place in Billings Bridge, the organic place next to the Green Door, and the Bagel shop on Welli west all come to mind.
@flandroid - Awesome, noted, will check. When Tabasco first streeted the product it was called 'Smoked Chipotle'. I just discovered that they removed the 'smoked' from the name.

I can't see the words "Price Chopper" without thinking of Tom Chediac Furniture and Appliances in New Glasgow, NS.
www.chediac.com/about.php
He was the original "Price Chopper". That was his slogan when I was just a wee lad, and he used to do commercials with an Axe, and all of his print ads were a cartoon guy with an axe. As a teenager I used to hang out with his son a bit, and his nickname was "Hatch" short for "Hatchet" :-)

@OSoloMeal Well that was easy. Hartman's also carries Valentina black label hot sauce, which is worth trying and doesn't taste like your usual gringo hot sauce -- try it on some melon or pineapple. Only two bucks for a 10-12oz stubbie. It's not with the others though, it's on a bottom shelf near the chips, if I remember correctly.

To take advantage of the largest savings at Price Chopper, one needs to get an AdvantEDGE Card. This card provides substantial in-store savings and other benefits like FUELAdvantEDGE, which gives discounts on gas at Sonoco stations.
The card is free at the customer care counter. They ask for ID and a Canadian one is quite welcomed.
