Where is everyone eating for NYE? [General]

We have an early dinner reservation at Tennessy Willems. Then we're off to make an appearance at a party with friends before turning in early (The Missus is pregnant and has trouble staying up past 9:30pm these days).

At home, with DH who is recovering from a major illness, with dinner from Epicuria: beef tenderloin stuffed with arugula and grilled artichokes; green beans with roasted shallots and toasted almonds; golden beets, sunchokes and winter greens roasted; potato cauliflower puree with vanilla and lemon squares for dessert. A bottle of Prosecco to start followed by enough red vino to put me to sleep well before midnight. Happy New Year to all you Ottawa Foodies and many thanks for hours and hours of happy reading right here on this site. I, for one, will be VERY happy to put this year behind me!

Best wishes and cheers to a healthier New Year to you and your dh Caperbeachgal, and best wishes for the foodie dreams of all who visit and participate here at OF.
We are eating in tonight with friends - it's our turn this year for hosting dinner and a sleepover for 6 to 10 people. I've got a goat cheese, sundried tomato and pesto terrine (from Laura Robin/Ottawa Citizen - 2nd making - it's delish), boeuf bourguinon, spaetzle and green beans, and a triple berry Danish cheesecake to try out. And lots of wine from a new local winery that shows promise and is delivering decent reds and whites.
Cheers!

I must caveat this with a bit of background in that my dad had various eateries in his life. Nothing high end but he was adamant about great service. Ended up washing dishes and scrubbing pots as a kid and once I was old enough to serve in a licensed establishment I hit the floor.
Anyways I am pretty cynical when it comes to NYE outings as my experience has been over priced meals, rushed and poor service.
This year went to a 'cat like' pub in the west part of town. Having been there in the past did not have high expectations. Was a paired meal. I was pleasantly blown away with the food! Was stellar and kind of blew my mind. One of the finer meals I had eaten in Ottawa for creativity and taste. Wines were OK.
My pa taught me when you seat someone, you better follow up with water to the table in mere moments....and as a big water drinker I hate to have to ask 5 times during a meal to have my water glass refilled. So the food was stellar but the service was a bit of a dud. Funny how something so simple is often overlooked.

We ate at Genji off of Elgin.
Started with Gyoza and veggie tempura.
The rolls we ordered all from the "specialty" section:
-Stampede rolls (medium rare) - if you haven't tried them then go....now!
-Tempura dipped spicy tuna rolls
-Soft shell crab Spider rolls
All washed down with a bottle of Hakutsuru Junmai Ginjo Sake. This was delicious as they add a beautifully carved cucumber flower into the sake glass and makes every sip taste light and refreshing.
Then we went over to the Hogmanay festival at City Hall. It was their first year and we had fun, but it was a bit disorganised. Let's hope they make some changes for next year. We will try it out again for sure :)
