Art-is-In bread - hands down the best in the city.
ottawafoodies.com/vendor/1139

I'm hoping the wisdom of the board can help create a full list of locations to get this wonderful bread (alas, the Farmer's Market will only be open so long...)

I know of :
Glebe Loeb
Ottawa Bagel Shop
La Bottega, but only sometimes

Restaurants:
Bekta
Benitz
Black Cat

Help?

Epicuria on Mackay St. off Beechwood Ave. in New Edinburgh.
There's a gourmet goods shop on Beechwood as well near The Works that carries this bread as...Josephson's??? It starts with a J......

Yes it's Jacobsens at the end of the strip. But like everywhere else you have to be there the nanosecond they put the bread out - it goes fast!

The Ottawa Bagleshop always has a nice selection, I believe the Art-is-in Bakery is directly behind the store.

Yes the bakery is apparently behind the bagel shop but it is not open to the public. (I inquired about it on my last trip to the Lansdowne farmers market a couple of weeks ago...) So you can only get it at various retail locations around the city or at Lansdowne.

Also offer it at the Wellington Gastro Pub on Wellington. Fab restaurant if you have not tried it.
Agree it is some of the best bread in the city.

It's available at Dover Bagels on Greenbank just north of Hunt Club.

Okay I need to ask a pretty stupid question so please don't kick me out of Ottawa Foodies! I need something to read in the morning over coffee! :)

I go to the Landsdowne Farmer's Market every week and I still cannot figure out where this bakery has their stand. Which, really, is nuts because the market isn't THAT big. I have seen other bread retailers (savoury pursuits, etc etc.) but maybe I am missing the art-is-in stand?! Where is it normally located? Do they not have a sign?

Do I have to go early in the morning? I admit, I am lazy and sleep in on Sunday and therefore don't hit the market until around noon or afterwards. But I am willing to get up as early as necessary.

Please let me into this secret society of bread!!! I am tortured by other inadequate loaves!!

...well, maybe not tortured, but I am curious!

You know, last time I went there I couldn't find it at first either, even though I knew where it was. They must have gotten rid of their sign!

It's more or less in the middle of the market, halfway between the food tent and the Ethiopian stall. They have racks and racks of baguettes, and you can usually find them because there's a line up later in the day. It's quite possible that they've sold out and closed down by noon, as I've always gone in the morning (10:30 is all right though, you don't have to be there right when it opens).

Try a Zopf from the new Swissly bakery stall too. My mom used to make those... just amazing with butter and strawberry jam or honey!

Thank you, Fresh Foodie! I am much obliged to you for your informative and prompt reply :)

I saw your picture of the baguette from art-is-in when I looked them up here and I am dying to try it. However, I have some homemade wild strawberry jam in the fridge that I was given a little while ago so I will also add the Zopf to my list.

Thanks again!
