Suggestions for hot weather food? [Recipes]

How about some nice salads? Quinoa, corn, black beans, diced tomato, diced peppers with a nice dash of olive oil and a squeeze of lime juice? Or a tuscan bean salad - white kidney beans, tuna, red onion, celery with some olive oil and lemon juice? I don't really use recipes for these - it's pretty much what's in the refrigerator. Both have lots of protein and are delicious! I'm sure you could come with a few more with some imagination and what's in your crisper drawer :-)
Good luck!

Some ideas were posted here: Forum - Summer Cooking
I have been eating alot of garden salads with leftover cooked chicken and shrimp I have left in the freezer. I have alot of canned beans in the pantry and I have been used the mixed beans ones for bean salads. I also have alot of those small cans of flavoured Clover Leaf tuna in the pantry (one of them will go in tonight's niçoise salad) as well as regular tuna, salmon, and sardines which can go in a salad, on pasta, or in a sandwich with a side salad.
Good luck surviving this heat wave-;)

When the weather is *this* hot, I really don't care whether my meals actually correspond to the time of day. I've been drinking smoothies for lunch/dinner and I had two of these (www.thekitchn.com) popsicles yesterday.
I like Englishfood's suggestion of the bread with meats or fish and so forth.
I'd also recommend pita and vegetables and fruit with different dips.
This heatwave reminds me of when I was in Italy back in 2005. I might have subsisted on gelato for a whole week. It was that hot.

Nigella Lawson has a recipe in her Forever Summer book for a watermelon, feta and olive salad that is great on a hot summer day. I wasn't going to copy it out of the book for copyright reasons, but fortunately I found it online:

Use a good quality feta and olive oil for best effect. We personally like to use the Moroccan olives but you can use any black olives.
Saslove's on Wellington also has some nice cold salads available. I picked up a couple for tonight - one is a couscous, black bean salad that we've had before and enjoyed...can't remember the other one.

I know it's out of foodie fashion but in long heat waves I still go for what my grandmother called cold plate--sliced cold ham, hard boiled eggs (devilled if you want), bread (hers was homemade)and butter and sliced fresh tomatoes with an iceberg lettuce salad (she made hers with cucumbers and peppers topped with homemade thousand island dressing.)

I'm not inventing anything new or taking credit for these ideas, but this is what soothes me when it's hot (and boy, do I love the heat!)
Sandwiches! I stress: nothing hot, not even the bread toasted. Butter your bread, put mayo or Miracle Whip, sprinkle bread generously with garlic powder, add greens/lettuce to the mayo, sliced cheese, and then whatever protein you have (I've done it with everything from sliced plain deli meat to chunk cooked poultry to flaked imitation crab meat, to egg whites, to prepared (and non-) tofu, to well, just more veggies).
Cracking some fresh pepper for the occasion definitely adds (in fact, I like to add Sriracha straight to the mayo for a spicy sauce kick), and the idea is of course vegetarianible/veganizable.
Don't overlook it!

I'm not usually a huge fan of the recipes in the Citizen, but today's Food section has a tempting selection of recipes for hot weather nosh.
As a suggestion for a hot weather tipple, yesterday I bought a big bag of lemons for $3 at Farmboy... we juiced half, sliced half, muddled the lot with sugar and mint, added water, and had some fab mint lemonade to help beat the heat. we went non-alcoholic, but I'm sure some tequila woulsd be a pleasant addition.

After biking in this heat, I have neither the energy nor appetite for anything more than a simple, cold tofu salad. For direct eating, soft silky tofu works best, but firm would work too for the texturally challenged. Just cut tofu into large cubes, top with chopped green onions, cilantro, some chili oil or sesame oil, crushed dry roasted peanuts, and drizzle on some sushi grade soy sauce.
I don't recommend adding vinegar or lemon juice, as sour tofu tastes like spoiled tofu.

We're getting tired of smoothies in the morning, cold asian noodles and salads. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I really don't want to use the stove or oven. Thanks in advance.
