There are generally speaking 2 different types of veggie burger : those which try to look and taste like a hamburger, and those which do not. Those which do try are generally pretty terrible. Those which do not try, are often very yummy! I especially like the ones made with different types of grains and legumes, and have a 'chunky' appearance to them. i.e. they have visible chunks of different things in them - they are not uniform in colour nor texture.

I usually can't stand veggie burgers, but: "Dr Praeger's" are quite good; I suspect they have no relation at all to an actual beefburger in texture or taste, but that's probably why I like them.

The "California" style is my favourite.

The ingredients:

Carrot, Onion, Stringbeans, Soybeans, Zucchini, Oat Bran, Peas, Spinach, Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Broccoli, Textured Soy Flour, Corn, Oat Fiber, Red Pepper, Arrowroot, Corn Meal, Corn Starch, Garlic, Salt, Parsley, Black Pepper, All Natural Vegetable Gum

I'm surprised that soybeans are #4. A processed soy product it is not.

They have them at Hartman's on Bank, among other places. A bit pricy, but worth it.

Lick's, hands down. Best frozen veggieburgers, nothing can beat them. The price hurts, but once in a while it's worth it.

I agree. Lick's veggie burgers are, in my opinion, the best veggie burgers foudn in grocery stores.

Lick's Nature Burgers are sold in the freezer section of Metro and some Loblaws. I find these to be the best burgers and you can easily cook them on the bbq or george foreman grill.

greetings
The vegan burger at ZenKitchen is delicious. Texture similar to meat, fixings beautiful, on a nice whole wheat bun. Vegan poutine was fab as well. Have eaten here several times for lunch and dinner, always have had a good experience.

Hintonburger's veggie burger is a falafel burger. light on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Bun leaves something to be desired, but the burger is worth it.

Pretty smoky in there at lunch so I still smell like burgers. Good thing I don't need to sit close to anyone at work :)

Dick's veggie burger is and tastes homemade. It is very tasty, you can see and taste the black beans. It was a little dry when i tried it, but nothing a little ketchup can't fix. The bun was a whole wheat bun - I would've asked for a regular white bun had i known. (i don't order veggie burgers to be healthy) The price is a bit steep at $7.09.

I'd say it's a made for montanas type of soy veggie burger. I say this because i've never seen a bigger veggie burger before.

Here's my two cents, for what it's worth. I haven't tried the veggie burgers at Montana's but did work at Kelsey's which is Cara corp as well. I loved their veggie burger. My boyfriend at the time was a line cook- the veggie burger was a soy protein base that was made up from a dry mix(from Cara Corp.) by just adding water.

for the curious, what type of veg-burger is this? Home made, made-for-Montana's, or is it a more generic Yves type of soy burger? tnx!

I actually completely agree re: veggie burger at Montana's. Literally, the best veggie burger I have ever had. You would never expect it from a chain rib eatery like this, but it is SO delicious.

This has got to be one of the best veggie burgers ever made. It is BIG, and the flavours are delicious. The burger is smothered in apple butter BBQ sauce, and has sautéed onions, mushrooms and red peppers, and feta cheese on top.

My family dined here Saturday at lunch after our first choice was closed. I wasn't expecting much more than regular pub fare, and when I ordered a vegeburger I definitely thought it would be your average frozen patty. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome - a freshly made patty with bits of carrots and leafy greens, that was flavourful and held together well. The bun was not your average soft Wonderbread bun, and was thankfully much better. I opted out of the mushroom topping but the fried onions were a good addition. We all got different sides - fries, sweet potato fries, and chips. All three were quite tasty, though I preferred the sweetater fries.

Also had very attentive service, and he didn't mess up our confusing order. My one and only complaint was that all three of us thought they forgot the lettuce on our burgers, only to find we each had a sad sprinkling of shredded lettuce under the patties. Some actual lettuce would be appreciated.

Apart from that, it was actually a good experience. I would return for that burger!

Just had an "amazing" veggie burger at this establishment. I say amazing simply because it tasted like a genuine, 1/4 pound, dribble-down-your-chin burger (I may be vegetarian now, but I remember how good the real thing tastes).

The combination of toppings, including the Portobello mushroom and thinly fried onions, were both delectable and filling. Accompanied by the equally tasty sweet potato fries and a tall glass of Creemore, this was a meal that exceeded my expectations.

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago for a different restaurant : there are 2 types of veggies burgers - those which try to look and taste like a hamburger, and those which do not. The ones which do try, usually are terrible. The ones which do not, are often pretty good.

This one did not try, and was therefore pretty good. It was not the colour of meat - was actually different colours with various grains in there. Not the best veggie burger I've ever had, but pretty far from the worst as well. I'd definitely order it again.

Like any burger at the Arrow and the Loon, there are about a dozen different ways to order it.

There are 2 types of veggie burgers : those that try to look and taste like a hamburger, and those that don't. In my experience the ones that do try are often pretty terrible, while the ones who do not try are often pretty spectacular. Unfortunately, this was one of the ones that tried to look and taste like a hamburger, and while it was not terrible, it was not very good either. I certainly won't be having another. It tasted like soy sauce. Yuck.

The Veggie burgers at Burger king are excellent! Especially with cheese. Mmmm. And their poutine is vegetarian as well. As the gravy contains no meat and their cheese contains no rennet. And its pretty good too.

Tried the veggie burger this weekend. I was happy to see that rather than listing "veggie burger" as a separate burger, it now states that "vegetarian patties are also available", so basically a substitution can be made with any listed beef burger.

We ordered one smokehouse veggie burger each with fries. To our surprise, the burger was actually a veggie patty, not a veggie burger. Not a bad thing - i've been trying to stay away from all that frankensoy stuff. The patty was flavourful and worked real well with the chipotle sauce. The burger also was topped off with 2 onion rings and cheese. Overall, the burger was good! But like LittleOwl on Nov 2, the bun was stale! I don't understand how that could be, I'm sure Royal Oak serve tons or burgers so that they don't need to worry about buns getting stale. Everything was decent for pub food.

The beer menu has a good amount of beers but I would appreciate seeing more local and microbrewery beers.
