Pretzels and beer- as natural a pairing as cats and dogs, etc. Light and salty, served with a "mustard" which is basically a delicious mayo. Thanks for making it easier to justify eating a small ramekins worth of mayo to myself. The amber de la chaudiere is an exceptional beer... Varied availability at the lcbo is disappointing

I've never been a fan of Mill St. My friends all love it and I've gone to many dinners and happy hours since they've opened and I've just never been a fan.

This New Years, a friend of mine who loves Mill St. really wanted to go for their NY Special. I provided many other options, but we wound up buying tickets at Mill St.

The special was a 4 course dinner with a beer pairing for each course.
- The first course was a bean soup, very underseasoned, but perked up with some salt.
- The second course I chose was a gnocci, which came out cold and overcooked.
- The third course was a 'surf and turf', which was a braised beef rib and a lobster fritter type-thing. The rib was awesome, super tender and juicy. The lobster fritter was awful, I couldn't eat it. It was cold and I couldnt not find any lobster at all in the roll. It was extermely fishy tasting and smelling, which put me off from finishing it.
- The dessert was this delicious stout brownie with icecream, which I gobbled up in record time.

Overall, the food was underwhelming and not work the 70+ price tag we paid. The beer was Mill St. Standard, nothing special for the evening (e.g. a seasonal).

I went here with a coworker on a Monday night and we now want to make it a regular thing. The service was good, the restaurant atmosphere was great and I'm a big fan of their food and drinks.

We tried the sampler of beer so we could try a few, the cherry one I'd avoid like the plague but the rest were good-great, the vanilla porter being great.

As for food we had found out that Monday was half price apps night so we decided to try a bunch of things. The two we enjoyed best were the drunken crap dip (beware the bread is somewhat salty but that just made me like it even more!) and the carnitas which were absurdly good.

Oh, I don't know. That sounds pretty sketchy to me. Cynical-me thinks "Would rather split the ATM fees" as a possibility, too.

Just a note on their debit system:

Because the NCC says they can't cut new holes in the infrastructure of the building for the installation of a debit system phone line (?), if you are planning to use a debit card, you will be directed outside to the ATM to get cash. Sorry, I didn't notice what bank it belonged to because it was just easier to use credit. I don't know how good an idea it is to direct people outside before paying their bills.

Just a quick one. Went this weekend for lunch (12:00). Was pleasantly surprised. My wife had the smoked chicken pot pie and I had the chicken and waffles. The pot pie was excellent, the smokey flavour was quite evident and very welcome. The chicken and waffles were pretty much perfect. The waffle was sweet and fluffy, the chicken piping hot and crispy, the gravy salty and the syrup... well it is syrup. Really great dish. Looking forward to going back.

Only one gripe. Family of four cost was $80 before tip. We had an app, and I had a beer. The price is high, but not unacceptable. However, charging for refills on a $3 fountain drink. That is pretty sh*tty IMO.

Anyone been to the Mill St. Pub lately on a Friday or Saturday evening? Is it still nearly impossible to get a seat past 6 or 7?

Thanks,

Roxanne.

Carnitas - pulled pork with black bean and corn over small fresh tortilla breads. Had it twice. Thought it was tasty both times.

Strange service at Mill St. yesterday that perplexed me. Went early for lunch (around 11:30, despite the mediocre reviews, just to see for ourselves about the food and to enjoy the view. The place was not crowded, with plenty of vacant tables. The hostess first took us upstairs to a room that was deserted except for a large table for a party of 24,just starting to arrive. She seated us immediately next to the party. We politely asked her for another table and with an eyeroll she brought us back downstairs to another empty room and showed us to the worst table, right next to the kitchen. We asked her if there was not something closer to a window, since we wanted to capture at least some of the view. She seemed very perturbed and said "Wait here. I'll go check" When she returned she brought us to a table in the bar that was ok, but when we commented that there were several tables for two right at the window that were not occupied, and couldn't we please have one of them?, her response was "They're not ready." We apologized and told her that we had decided not to stay. Not sure why we couldn't get the window tables. We were nicely dressed, but I thought it was maybe the "pretty people only in the window rule". We went instead to Back Lane Cafe, had a wonderful lunch and were even seated right in the window without a reservation LOL.

I was here last Saturday afternoon for a legalnomads.com meet and greet. It was a fun gathering, with lots of Jodi's family, friends, and followers/fans/foodies.

First visit to Mill St. It's a beautiful location with lots of covered parking. A few weddings came in while we were there.

It was my first time having Tankhouse Ale in draught form and it's pretty good! I also enjoyed the super refreshing Lemon Tea Beer (pic). Around $7 for a pint.. pretty normal.

Valley Irish Red rocks my socks. It's a very smooth red with a hint of maple, dee-lish!

Lots of pub brewed beers to try. You can also buy growlers in their retail store.

The Tourtiere was awesome. Moist, tasty and rich. I don't recall ever having Tourtiere before so I can't comment on authenticity, but I would definitely recommend it.

A pile of us went for a lunch on Thursday and it went very well. I had the corn and chipotle soup with the jerk chicken and mango flatbread. It was not bad. A little better than I'd expect to get at a chain restaurant, so I wasn't disappointed. I really wanted to see what the spent grain flatbread was. It was very moist, even after baking, which I liked.
