This place no longer exists. I went here a few times, it was nothing special, but not that bad either. I concur with "stickyrice" in that the owners were very friendly. But not friendly enough to make up for the mediocre food. Its now an empty building.
There were four Chinese dishes when I went (egg rolls, chicken balls, General Tso's chicken and lo mein) and two of those items were the best part of the buffet.
Watery palak mushrooms, what was labeled butter chicken was really... mango chicken (I think?). They had tandoori chicken but could not find any beef curry or butter chicken (which is generally decent and hard to mess up).
Usually all it takes for a buffet to be decent is to have three or four dishes you could have seconds of.
...apart from noodles, there's one item at Mosaic I enjoyed. Would not return.
I agree that this place has gone downhill. On a recent visit, the Indian component of the double buffet was almost non-existent, save for the papadams. The Chinese-Canadian part of the menu, while fresh, was never its forte, and not enough to stand on its own. This is a shame as the owners are still friendly as ever...
Terrible. $10 after tax for warm and serve buffet. Spartan decor I can handle, but the paper plates don't work well with watered down sweet and sour, and plum sauces.
I cannot comment on the Kanata location, but the new downtown branch on Gloucester St. is a great place to go to for a quick lunch. The all you can eat Indian/Chinese double buffet at $8.95 is a steal, especially in the downtown area. Alternatively, load up a styrofoam lunchbox to go to the brim for $6.95.
At these proletarian prices, expect spartan decor, disposable plates, and friendly but basic service. Refreshingly, the staff did not try to hard sell a soda or drink. My complementary water glass was refilled frequently with a smile and minimal fuss.
On Monday, the selection was basic but good and flavourful. The Indian fare included tandoori chicken legs, butter chicken, saag, lentil curry, beef curry, basmati rice and naan (store bought, not freshly made). The Indian food was not as spicy as you would typically expect, but the flavour was quite subtle and complex...a hint of Persian influence? The Chinese fare was typical Canadianized fare like egg rolls, General Tao's Chicken, mushrooms and broccoli, chicken chow mein, and Singapore rice noodles...nothing exciting but fresh and comforting. Overall, this is a great place to escape for lunch without the attitude.
We went to Mossaic Buffet on Valentine's Day but we were really disappointed with the food and service. Too many people & just couple of waiters. Atleast 30% of the containers were empty. Horrible food. My stomach got upset after dinner. I don't think we will ever go there again. Only advise: Try at your own risk!!
