LF: Strawberry carts in the city [General]

2011 Jun 14
I'm looking for already picked strawberry carts in the city. I used to go to the one on Prince of Wales across from the Agriculture museum, but I don't drive that way any more. There was another one at Glebe Ave & Bank St, but with the construction, it is harder to get there.

Can people post where they have seen other ones?

Saw Shouldice Farms cart in church parking lot at the corner of Richmond Rd. and Woodroffe. Across from a Col. Saunders Yuccky-Fried Chicken.

No food on it at 7am but the cart was there.

The Rochon Farm stall in the Byward Market had local strawberries as of today at 1pm. Haven't check out their Parkdale location yet today....

Be very careful at Parkdale we were there yesterday and bought strawberries that we were told were picked that morning. We did not take a close look at he them thinking everything there would be fresh and of good quality. To our dismay when we went to clean them the majority of them were rotting. The vendor was one of the closest to the south end of the market and the berries were from Quebec. Five bucks down the drain. Caveat emptor!

Ken V I think I have been burned by that same vendor before. I hate to have to root through individual baskets to check the berries on the bottom, so I just avoid that guy.

I've been burned by that same guy before (2nd to the end, IIRC) with other produce. I stick to Rochon now (I think they're the third or fourth stall up from the bottom).

Add me to the list too. I won't buy from either of the two vendors at the south end of the market.

Shouldice is also back at their "usual" spot on Prince of Wales, across from the Agricultural Museum.

Pick your own on Woodroff and merrivale are both open.
Drove by today and saw loads off pickers, also sell ready picked by the basket.

Long drive but Dekok on March Road (north Kanata) has pick your own and they sell freshly picked--plus raspberries in July.

I don't know if their berries are local (you'd have to ask), but there's a berry/fruit hut in the Canadian Tire parking lot at Bank and Heron. I used to buy berries from them and liked the quality but haven't lately.

Mers: definitely worth asking. I was talking about that very stall with a coworker of mine, who said that the last time she bought from there they were from the Gaspésie. Not quite local, but Canadian nonetheless.

Heck, the strawberries at Farm Boy are from Québec right now.

And I bought some at a fruit stand in Massena that were also from Quebec LOL, but the next stand were 100% local, so it is worth asking.

There is a stand at the Canadian Tire on Bank st, near Heron I think.
near the chip wagon.

I also bought some berries last week from Acorn Creek at Lansdowne farmer's market.
I always put my berries in a plastic container or else they never look nice after a bus trip.

I was carefully unpacking my berry container and at least 2 berries were mouldy and a couple others were bad- at least they let me replace those.
But still sucks :(

I haven't had too many problems with the berries from the Byward market vendors- a few were selling some very small strawberries that I was told were from Quebec.
