OSM, where does the churro cart hang out?

2017 Feb 26
It's not bad. It doesn't really taste like a churros, more like an industrial kitchen's attempt at on. Not bad at all tho til the churros cart is back for the summer.

The limited time Caramel-filled Churro is the best Tim's doughnut I've tried. It's a honey cruller, minus the honey glaze, filled with a light caramel jelly and rolled in cinnamon sugar. I may be biased though, as the honey cruller is the only regular Tim's doughnut that doesn't fill me with regret.

Interesting. I find their sandwiches/soups the best part as well. They are cheap and quite decent.

Why would a company sell something at break even or at a loss? Loss-leaders maybe? Like when a supermarket puts butter out at $2/lb?

Honestly I don't know too many people who rave about the lunches, but I've met hundreds that go for coffee and donuts, i.e the real money makers.
Surely people remember when Tim's didn't do lunch, yet was still a power franchise?

Regardless I'm pretty sure they're still making money off anything that gets reheated and served to you in a bowl.

Well, how about that! I had not heard of this. Overall they must be profitable as they continue to sprout up in all manner of places. They must make their money off that gut rot they call coffee.

The owners of the franchises launched a class-action lawsuit against the parent company based on two things : the introduction of the half-baked donuts and the cost of the lunch items they were required to purchase from the parent company.

www.mccarthy.ca

They lost the lawsuit.

The franchises make little or no $ from the lunch items.

I'm no fan of Tim Horton's but why on earth would a franchisee agree to sell stuff at a break-even point or a loss? They are there to make money - this makes no sense.

I would just like to weigh-in re: the prices of Tim Hortons lunches - and someone please correct me if I am wrong.

It is alleged that the reason why Tim Hortons sandwiches, soups etc are less expensive than many of the other restaurants' is because the franchises are required by their parent company to sell their lunch menu items at break-even prices or even at a loss.

I remember back before 2001, when the donuts were actually made in the store, there was more variety and they were soo good.

The donuts are now par baked, meaning theyfry them in a factory in Brantford, flash freeze them, then re-heat them in store where they apply filling and coating.

I find the donuts to be much drier and more stale than before. It's quite sad to see a Canadian icon stoop to such a low, but that's how it goes.

I haven't tried any doughnut to beat the Tim Horton's sour cream glazed. Strange sounding, but so satisfying with a steeped tea (with milk and sugar).

I tried one of these on the weekend, within 30 minutes of putting down a Sausage McMuffin (don't ask -- dreary carpet-shopping and an accompanying insane need for indulgent junk).

I took two bites and decided it was going to make me sick. The "biscuit" appears to have been soaked in shortening before being toasted. My revulsion may have been due to my fat-saturation after the McMuffin, but if I'm having a little cholesterol-bomb breakfast-sandwich, I think I prefer at least the bun to be normal food.

Looking at the Timmy's site, the sandwich is 34g of fat -- substituting a bagel for the biscuit shaves off 10.5g of fat. That may be the way to go. Of course the pork sausage patty provides around a full gram of sodium, but we can't give up everything, can we?

B.t.w.: a Sausage McMuffin with Egg is 26g fat, 10g saturated v. Timmy's Sausage/Egg thingy at 34g fat, 20g saturated.

I can't believe I've just defended McDonald's nutritionally; but given the choice, I know where I'm going in the future.

Way, way overpriced for what you get. Buy the biscuits and make them at home.

Sorry to disagree but I had a hard time choking mine down. I felt like I was eating pure (cheap) lard. And I didn't enjoy the microwaved egg with it's very flat consistency either. I like junk food just as much as the next guy or gal, but that one I can't do.

I've had quite a few favorite breakfasts at different outlets. But to tell the truth there has been nothing like Tim Hortons Sausage Homestyle Biscuit Breakfast. I have had to limit myself to only two per breakfast. If you haven't tried these, make a point of doing so. You won't be disappointed. They are gggggggreat (sorry tony).

The new breakfast sandwich is quiet amazing. They are delicious and something new that everyone should try. They come with bacon or sauage toasted on a homestyle biscuit.
