I love the Mayflower and go there for dinner often! I live nearby, so maybe i'm biased, but it's always good..lovely fish and chips, yummy burgers, seasonal fare, and a really comfortable, 'down to earth' atmosphere with fast and friendly service. A tad drafty in the winter so wear a sweater...
Bonus: their bar feels like Coronation Street!
I recommend the asiago spinach dip, fish and chips, burgers, and milk-shakes. Their ceasar salads are tasty, bacony and fresh, but they put a bit too much dressing on it.
Breakfasts are okay, i've had nice eggs benny there, with pretty standard homefries.
Nice patio in the summer to chill out and people watch.
Cute restaurant, cute tables, but my single breakfast experience was bad. I have the eggs florentine, they were bizzare, the hollendaise sauce was AWFUL and the english muffin was soggy. Not going back, ever.
Went one Sunday morning and sat on the patio, towards the back. The staff kept meeting there to talk about how drunk they had been the night before (fine, who cares), but then one of them started talking about how much he had thrown up. The subject matter only got worse, and no one seemed to care or notice that we were all privy. Clueless, unprofessional service + unremarkable food. Not going back.
When on Elgin street I have gone into the Mayflower Restaurant. The decore is small town kitsch but not off putting.
On Canada Day we went into this restaurant to get a simple meal for our family in a quiet environment. The food was adequate and the service was quick and friendly.
However when the bill came we found that we had been overcharged because they tacked on many things that were represented to be included in the meal.
Also $3 for a child's Cranberry Juice is excessive.
When talking to the manager garnered no results it soured the whole experience.

Well, obviously the hollandaise sauce was bad. It wasn't Hollandaise sauce. Eggs Florentine comes with Mornay or cheese sauce.
The Mayflower is a great place for brekkie. I've been going there for decades and they've been consistently good.
