We got Hays'd.

Service was efficient, but surly. Our group of 8 became a group of 10, and that put the service off straight away because we had to move.

The coffee is not included in any breakfast, and for an extra $2.50 it should be a LOT better. It was the weak sickly stuff that you always get at a diner and shouldn't be any more than $1 if it isn't included.

We wanted to announce that we would have a large party and not slam the kitchen, so we made a reservation. One of our group couldn't get the senior's special breakfast pricing because we had made a reservation. He would have gotten a free cup of their delicious coffee, otherwise.

My order was incorrect, and it took a while to sort out. We did end up getting an extra order of toast out of it eventually AT NO ADDITIONAL COST! Imagine!

The homefries are the standard frozen potato nuggets, and are the standard dry turds when cooked. Yuck. I wasn't really expecting any better, really. No onions, no nothing.

I wanted an extra pancake on the side, which they offer as a side order on the breakfast menu. The waitress told me that they only came as 2. Sounded fine. It came as an entire extra breakfast order instead. I really didn't expect to pay $20 for breakfast, but there you go.

There are MUCH better places for breakfast that are MUCH closer to our group that are also MUCH cheaper.

Been there once for breakfast. It was fine. Nothing wrong, nothing to prompt me to go back vs any number of places i can get better for the same price.

Pasta Lover - I've eaten there, mostly snack type foods/sandwiches on several occasions, although not in the last year. I put my food down with the person who kept picking it. The food is below average, not disgusting but not anything that makes me say I want to eat this again. Service can be hit or miss, depending on the mood.

And the comment about the soggy/overdone nachos is spot on.

Thanks Stella. Nice to hear you have enjoyed your breakfasts there.

I go there quite often for breakfast. While its nothing fancy, I always find the food to be well executed. Their homefries are tasty and the eggs have been perfectly poached every time.
I haven't noticed any problems with the service...the place is usually quite packed on weekend mornings and only once or twice has the food been delayed.

Have any regular contributors been to Summerhays? Just wondering because the only people to review this place are one hit wonders surfing in to give the place a bad review then never returning. I'm just wondering if this resto is really that bad?...

Gotten a Valpak coupon on the mail, so I figured we'd try this out. Place was mostly empty, aside from quite a few people on the patio.

Waitress was quite nice, no complaints there.

Ordered the Nachos as an appetizer, which was a definate miss. One side of the nachos was overdone, brownish in colour and very unappetizing. Most of the other nachos were soggy. Apparently this was done so the cheese could melt "everywhere". For some odd reason, a tortilla was at the bottom of the plate.

Main course was a Sausage Penne and Sausage Jambalaya, both marked "hot" on the menu. In the words of Gordon Ramsay, bland. Decently sized portion, needed quite a bit more heat to be called "hot".

I wish I had found reviews before I went there, as we certainly won't be coming back <_<

The owner was the rudest!!!!

I will never return there, the owner basically said families with kids are not welcomed. He offended my wife and as we were leaving I went to talk with him again and he was even ruder!!!!

P.S. The food is hit and miss but more miss than hit!

Went here last night around midnight for some wings and beer with the boys.
wing sauce was great but the wings were horrible,
cheap cheap beer and students get 20% off
if everyone hadnt woken up with upset stomachs id have gone back here for sure.

Food Addict - I have to agree with Chimichimi & Fresh Foodie on this one... once the food is within your control then it's your responsibility... unless the restaurant can somehow be held responsible (ie the Server knocks over your beer). A June Bug on the patio is just an act of nature.

EDIT - So I'd expect a repour, but I'd still assume I'd be paying for the beer. But then I'm one of those people who usually expects when something goes wrong I'll get a replacement not a COMP... infact I see a Replacement as good as a COMP in most situations.

Zym - I totally agree with the coaster thing... I've even seen places that have coasters (not those regular cardboard beer advertising versions) that are plastic and have edges to them, and they fit perfectly over the top of one's glass.

GT RIP - LOL, here on OF a Review may indeed have an "expiry date", a Rant not so much. Food Addict clearly wasn't reviewing the food.
;-)

Captain C - Yup like that old joke... "Sssh or everyone else will want one too."

As a previous reviewer mentioned - the home fries are of the deep fried variety which is a shame. Although the BEST part of the breakfast here is the sausage - they give you a full sized bratwurst instead of 3 little breakfast links! Breakfast is reasonably priced and if you look like a student (not sure if everyone on this site could pull this off!) then they have a student breakfast special which is $1.99!

My only complaint is service here can be quite spotty as the restaurant is usually packed. On some occasions I've came in and sat down, and haven't received acknowledgment of even being there - which is almost unforgivable in the restaurant 'biz.

All in all - great value on some items. Just try and pick a quiet morning!

Went there during weekday, lots of cars in parking lot but still tables available. The service was quick and good timing on coffee refills. The 1.99 student breaky (plus a $1 coffee) was given to me, even though I'm obviously not a student. The scrambled eggs were the type where they must lay them thin/flat on grill and let cook quickly then cut in to strips or whatever, and they had an old dirty grill taste to them. What seems to be the standard deep fried hashbrowns (GOD WHERE ARE THE GOOD HASBROWNS ANYMORE< LIKE Chances R used to make with real potatoes?), the toast was great. The standard bacon everone seems to be serving at all the restaurants that tastes like precooked, hard to eat Bacon.

Bagel and cream cheese was good, with two balls of cream cheese on the plate that you could spread yourself. Good sized balls of cream cheese.

Ha.. we almost went there for brekky the Sunday before you but bailed at the last minute because their parking lot was so full. I've been once before and remember it being a decent place inside but the food was unmemorable.

Saturday morning wasnt very busy, and I had Bacon & Eggs with Fresh Fruit. The bacon was good, the eggs were way underdone & really had no flavour, and where were the homefries?

The honey garlic wings are the best. They tend to be on the small side sometimes, but they taste a lot better than other restaurants offering 35 cent wings.

$0.35 wings with a drink purchase. Great quality unlike some other vendors in the city who really cheap out on their chicken wings.

The fries here are pretty good, so the other night I thought I'd get poutine. When I checked the menu, I was disappointed to see they use grated mozzarella instead of cheese curds.
