I believe the new Popeyes at college square is finally open.

BlackTartan Kitchen, 132 Bridge Street Carleton Place is opening today. I was at the soft opening last evening and had a great dinner. The charcuterie board was very large, more than enough for two. Everything including the bread is made in house. All three if us had Steak Frites and we all finished our steak but could not finish the frites, not without trying because they were excellent. The blue cheese chantilly and bordelaise sauce was to die for. The wine is list very good. The salmon which was served at the table next to mine looked very good. Did not have room for dessert but they looked good. I would highly recommend the Black Tartan Kitchen. It is worth the drive.

Mavericks Donuts is open at Herongate strip mall on Bank.

AND IT IS GLORIOUS.

Seriously, these are great donuts. Had the lemon ricotta - nicely delicate, great combo of the lemon and cheese filling in the evil evil donut, and the caramel creme brulee, which is basically what happens when you fill an evil evil donut with awesome custard and melt caramel on top and sneak massive amounts of happiness and joy and possibly cocaine into it it was THAT good.

They do four or five flavours per day, and have some sort of diabolical make-your-own donut option that sort of looks like what happens if Coldstone ice cream went donuts.

Suzy Q has some competition. Will be back. Will send others.

Burgers and Fries Forever is opening a second location on Dalhousie between Clarence and Murray. Signage is up, windows papered over.

Is Mavericks at Heron Gate or Blue Heron? just want to confirm, since Heron Gate is further from Bank and closer to Walkley/Heron

Maverick's Donuts is in the Blue Heron mall (the one with Farm Boy and Pelican Fishery).

The Fry is opening up a new location in Barrhaven in the Chapman Mills Marketplace.

Raon Kitchen has a lunch spot open on Laurier near Elgin. They have a take-out place in the west end and a food truck on Bank during the summer months.

From the strange but true department a new restaurant called Centrale Bergham has a new location in Ottawa South and they will be opening another location on Donald Street in the near future. Peter Hum reviewed it recently: ottawacitizen.com

OSoloMeal I was referring mostly to the ginormous quantities of glow-in-the-dark food. I "know" I shouldn't judge a book by its cover I find the colour of the food awfully fluorescent. Kinda makes me wonder what they do to it to make it so brightly coloured...

Well, it looks to be Tandoori and Curry colour, so for the yellow, it's Tumeric, and the tandoori I see at anywhere that offers Tandoori....

Not open yet, but according to their instagram, town is soon opening a sister restaurant called 'citizen' .. wine bar/snack bar

Spoiler alert?! I passed 207 Gilmour Street - just west of Elgin and around the corner from town - last evening and noted this glowing space that's not yet open but appears very near ready...so perhaps the little sister? Hats off to the team responsible - looking really lovely.

Presotea is open at 212 Slater st, at Bank and Slater- where the German deli used to be.

This is a Chinese bubble tea chain and they have at least 200 kinds of tea.
I had a bubble slush made with a fresh mango, green tea and lychee jelly cubes.
They have 2 sizes Regular and Large- the regular must have been 700ml and cost $7.50 inc taxes.

But it did have a whole mango in it, so was very filling.

They are open every day until 9:30pm.

Citizen (the new Town-place around the corner from Town) is now open. Maybe not officially but if you walk in they'll serve you. No reservations.

Vegetarian type place going into the old Mellos on Dalhousie, I like the irony, I'm sure there are still traces of bacon grease from the bygone era that cannot be removed.. . . . . . .

I believe it is the same owner as Ace Mecado, as you may remember, there was a bit of a dust up with the Mellos gang, but it's the Veggie Bowl now. I wonder whatever happened to that Mellos sign, anyway?

Rumor has it some "Toronto chain" is taking over the spot Fresco is vacating on Elgin St...

On reddit, Captain's Boil was the Toronto chain that was rumoured to be moving into Elgin. Can't confirm though.

Heard that The Ball Room has been looking at the spot Real Sports bailed on...
