New InstantPot with Sous Vide - Group Buy [General]

2014 Nov 12
For anyone interested, I can put you in touch with the guy running the group buy. It is not something I am interested in - love my current instantpot and don't want any of the new features like sous vide and smart phone app (WTF?)

instantpot.com

Group buy price should be pretty attractive but a lot more than the old instantpot.

Private message me.

The new instant pot supports bluetooth so you can control and program it from an iPhone or Android phone. The previous version had a yoghurt making fuction. Mine is the original one from 4 years ago. :-)

Zym, I had sent you a PM but never heard back. So wondering if the messages are getting to you.

2014 Nov 23
I replied to you on Nov 19 - have you checked your messages?

Guys, why not wait for the bluetooth version ?

Once you can control it from an app, you can do a lot more, as you are not limited to programs preset in the push button control panel.

Press release on bluetooth IP:

This group buy is for the bluetooth version. No it is not out yet - a few more weeks yet.

I picked one of these up on Friday, made a ridiculously good beef stew that tasted like it was simmering all day in about an hour and made a white bean and vegetable soup in about 30 minutes today. I've been using the iPhone app to control it, even though I didn't think it would be necessary.

I'm going to try some 63 degree eggs tomorrow.

Overall very happy with it!

2015 Feb 24
Is it much better than the original one? Can it work on Android ?

2015 Feb 24
Ok, what is the group buy price ?

2015 Feb 25
It does not yet have an Android app but that is coming.

2015 Feb 28
Weird, since Android has more than 90% market share in smartphones.

2015 Mar 2
Actually, Android had "only" 81.1% total market share in 2014 (www.idc.com).

That's still a huge number but Android runs on many different devices, each with its own ecosystem and idiosyncrasies. From a developer's point of view supporting Android over iOS initially is not an obvious choice.

The question for InstantPot would be: which smartphone OS will bring it the most new business. It's hard to beat the iPhone for glossy brochure sex appeal.

The bluetooth-enabled InstantPot sounds like fun. It appeals to my geek side, as did my tweeting BBQ thermostat (twitter.com/warbyq). ;-)

I have both android and iPhone so I was covered either way. I really like having the app enabled version, very easy to control.

2015 Mar 3
How much is the new one with the group buy price? I want to know!

2015 Mar 5
Ugh, Stuart, you are making me want to buy one . . .

The original instant pot is great for making sushi, (a) because the rice cooks fast under pressure and (b) it tends to come out stickier that a normal rice cooker and (c) less of the rice vinegar evaporates so you can taste it more intensely. Even cheap regular rice from Super C makes great sushi done in the IP.

I might be interested as well, depending on the damage to my wallet.

2015 Mar 11
Guess no one wants to say what the group price is.

2015 Mar 11
Not supposed to quote it in public. Part of the deal of getting a group rate. Same as the original purchase that was done. Contact the guy yourself and organize your own group buy. You usually only need to be able to get rid of 10 units for the rate.

2015 Mar 12
Thanks, Zym. That explains it .

2015 Mar 27
Is this still a thing? Are we approaching 10 people interested yet?

2015 Mar 27
PiO is back!

One group buy has already happened but it sounds like there is interest in another one.

A bit late for me (I've got an IPDUO60), but for anyone on the fence, the Instant Pots are great, great devices. Everything I've made in mine has turned out superbly, with a minimum of fuss, a minimum of time. I make two batches of Texas chili (I'm one of those purists: chiles, big cubes of meat, no beans -- it's not called chile con carne y frijoles -- and no tomatoes) in half the time it would take to make a single batch on the stovetop. My mom finally gave me the family's decades-and-decades-old bolognese recipe, and I'm pretty sure I can cut that 10-hour cook down to two. And it might taste even better. Don't tell my mom.

I make my own kidney beans, cooked from dry (more flavor), and I add in some liquid smoke. It makes an awesome bean burrito. Twice as much water as dry beans. I use the manual setting. 40 min ?

Is there enough interest for another group buy?

2015 May 9
Well I don't know what the group buy price was, but if you want to go it alone, you can get a $60 off coupon for the InstaPot Smart (the one with bluetooth) here
www.hippressurecooking.com

I did a dummy order (didn't complete it) and it works out to $260 US incl tax & shipping.

Subtotal: US$289.95
Discount coupon Unset coupon: US$60.00
Discounted subtotal: US$229.95
Shipping cost: US$0.00
GST+PST/HST 13%: US$29.89

Total: US$259.84

Maybe one of the folks who participated in the previous group buy could hint whether this is a good deal or going for the group buy is still worth it.

2015 May 9
Group by would definitely be worth the effort based on that price.

2015 May 12
I'm still interested in a group buy.

2015 May 13
Is the Android version out or not ?
