pizza recommendation [Food/Vendor]

[Please excuse this newbie...]

My wife and I have moved to Ottawa in January, and since our arrival we have been on a mission to find good take-out places to replace the fav spots we had in Kingston. We have small kids and these days it is just easier to dash out and bring something home, rather than arrange babysitting etc... but I digress.

In any case, we have been quite happy with our Indian, Chinese, Thai finds (we tried 4-5 places for each) etc, but we are still searching for a good pizza place. You know, thin crust, interesting toppings... we have tried a number of places: Biaggio's (closest to us), La Favorita (Preston), Il Negozio Nicastro (Westboro; forgot what their restaurant is called), La Dolce Vita... out of these we quite liked La Favorita and Nicastro. Unfortunately the drive from Little Italy can be long and both Favorita and Dolce Vita are probably getting a somewhat less favorable review than if we were to eat in...

So my question is what else should we try?

Thanks in advance for your input.
(great site btw, looking forward to hanging out here a bit more!)

Hi kaczor and welcome to Ottawa! We have many nice restaurants in Ottawa now and I am sure you and your family will enjoy exploring what the city has to offer. There are alot of takeout places in Ottawa but since I live downtown I am mostly familiar with the more centrally located restaurants - I guess that is too far for you? I occasionally make field trips to Westboro village and can recommend a couple of places if that is more convenient. If you like Indian food there is a Roses Café on Wellington near Parkdale. I have eaten at their Gladstone location many times and can give them a thumbs up. If you like Asian food the Wonton House on Wellington and Holland is also good. Their shrimp in phoenix nest is my favourite. If you are looking for pizza Carlos Pizzeria on Harmer is good but they make thick crust pizza. They only do takeout so this might be up your alley if you like that kind of pizza... And if you can't or don't want to pick up they offer free delivery. Apparently Ho Ho's on Richmond near Woodroffe is really good and they do take out. Fresh Foodie recently posted a link to some online takeout menus which might help you as well: www.ottawatakeouts.com.

Another vote for Carlo's here :) My boyfriend and I are also a fan of thin-crust (though we love Biagio's) but Carlo's is the best thick-crust pizza we've ever had.

Yup, read my reviews for Carlo's on this site - love it!
Though it's not "thick and doughy". I like thin crust but Carlo's is A-OK for me. Not too thick at all.

You can skip right by Forno Antiquo (sp?) on Bronson.

went out of my way to try their pizza after reading lots of hype about their "fantastic thin crust pizza"....well, for one, the pizza was as thick as any I've ever had in the Ottawa area.....and the taste and texture of the crust was a dead ringer for Delicio, or any of those other "rising crust" frozen pizzas.
My wife and I were the only people in the place....we ordered and got our pizza relatively promptly. Most of the other empty tables hadn't been bussed since their previous patrons.
Then the guy who had served us (the only guy working in the place) put on his coat and left.....after 5-10 minutes random people started walking in, heading in the back, then leaving again....we'd eaten as much as we could stomach, and eventually asked one of these random people for our bill, and he responded "you have to talk to the boss"......2 or 3 random people later, one of them brought our bill, and I followed him to the counter to pay, and we left.....the original guy who took our order and served us, was up on the roof, and the rest of the random guys were standing around a couple trucks in the alley next to the place.......very odd experience.

If you are looking for thin crust, we like the Porto Casa in BBQ Haven.

colonnade pizza?
their cheese blend is quite unique. fast and friendly. not inexpensive pizza... but you do get what you pay for imo.
