Witches fingers!

www.canadianliving.com

A woman at work used to make those every year and bring them in - they are great!

What else have you got for food relating to Halloween?

Pumpkin pie, pumpkin ice cream . . . are two of my fav Halloween treats.

Also candy :-) each of my kids comes back with so much. We don't let them keep it all. I bring the rest to work. I've developed a taste for sour candies, which wasn't around when I was a kid.

Thank for the tip, Zym. I made those witches fingers on the weekend for a Halloween potluck and they were a hit! Not only were they delicious, but they were a blast to make.
Whee-hah!

At a friend's place for dinner this weekend, I had the best ice cream sandwiches - pumpkin ice cream with ginger cookies. Absolutely fantastic.

oddly enough we would make donuts and onion rings around Halloween when I was young. I have no idea why - but I suspect the onion rings were included since we were already deep frying.

We always make mashed potato ghosts and mummy weiner wraps for the kids. They love it!

I am going to make a pumpkin rice pudding!
Don't really have a recipe-so hopefully it will work well.

Was going to make a pie or squares, but don't feel like that much work after baking a complicated cake and other stuff this week.

That sounds like a winning combo of foods! :)
My friend made a pumpkin pudding (essentially pie filling) topped with whipped cream and it was SO delicious.

I had a dinner/Halloween party, here was what was served, really tried hard to keep it strictly seasonal:

Roasted squash/garlic soup
Homemade sauerkraut with sausages, roasted pork, pigs tails and an ear
brussel sprouts wrapped in bacon
horseradish/dill potato salad
stuffed mushrooms
chicken liver pate and whitefish pate with pickled cauliflowers, cucumbers, beets and green beans
of course lots of cheese and charcuterie

and pumpkin cake and hallowe'en candy, naturally.

Thank God for the sausage kitchen and their fantastic sausages...

Yessi- did your friend use canned pie filing or make the filling herself?
I am starting my pudding with fresh pumpkin or squash. will top with crushed graham crackers before serving and whip cream :)

Tracinho-the pig ear and tail would probably scare me- I do not eat lots of meat.
Sausage Kitchen is quite good, but i am right beside Bank St Sausage so usually go there.

Today I just bought some organic bacon that is made with maple syrup-it is delcious. it is from Ferme Fee et Fougere in quebec- got it from the farmer co-op.
Also some mango and chicken sausage and some tomato basil sausage from Ferme au Saveurs des Monts.

if you go to Quebec and can find them, they are quite good!

The brussel sprouts with bacon sound pretty good.
last time i made some I used black peppercorn and orange peel speice grinder mix, roasted hazelnut oil, parmesan cheese!

I believe she did it the easy way with canned pumpkin and something like Jello mix. For me, if a food tastes like pumpkin, it's an instant hit. I'm that easy to please.

Yours sounds amazing, though. Nice touch with the graham crackers.
