I have passed this restaurant and perused their menu many times and I decided it was high time I actually gave it a try. I spent a leisurely and pleasant couple of hours there on my most recent trip to Ottawa and, though I don’t really think I can claim it to be the best Thai restaurant I have ever eaten at, it was nonetheless a worthwhile visit…

The Food
Tom Yum Kung ... Rating 2 out of 5.
Taud Man Pla ... Rating 3 out of 5
Pork Satay ... Rating 3 out of 5

Overall
All in all, I wasn’t wowed by anything I ate here but it was still all enjoyable and decently prepared. The service was good, if a little formal, and I was able to relax and enjoy myself. I would definitely come back on a future visit to the capital, perhaps to to try one of the more substantial curries. Rating 3 out of 5

Yum Yum: If you liked Bangkok Thai Garden, I'm assuming you'll love Royal Thai. It's just *so* much better, and with them within walking distance of one another and their prices being comparable, I'm surprised anyone goes to BTG.

A friend recommended this place as one of the best spots in Ottawa for Thai food. It's a cozy spot where the service is speedy and the staff super friendly. The daily special is a good deal, and I loved their spring rolls (wish they were bigger) and pad thai. Tried SC's red curry chicken (tasty but the vegetables could have been crisper). Warning - stay away from the super gritty, over cooked/bland beef salad. But onwards and upwards...me and my fellow pack of foodies will be checking out the Royal Thai (Byward Market)and Nokham Thai restaurants to determine which one is the best of 3. Bon appetite!

I went here on a date a few years ago, and found that the experience was very underwhelming. The appetizers were bland, and the green curry consisted of overcooked vegetables served in a very watery sauce. The eggplant in the curry was like mush in your mouth. All the meat was also overcooked.

All in all, it wasn't horrible, but with Royal Thai just up the street and so much better, why bother?
