Stopped in for lunch at the St. Laurent location. Ordered the chicken tortilla wrap with a side caesar salad. The wrap was cold and the bread tasted really processed in that plastic way. The chicken breast was fresh. The salad was standard - very little dressing, thin shredded cheese on top. I would go back if I was in the area but nothing to write home about but good and fresh tasting.

Last week we were at Kelsey's in Kanata.
We shared the ultimate steak sandwich and a pulled pork on pretzel bun.
The steak sandwich was fabulous! mushrooms, carmelized onions a beer sauce and very hot. yumm.
I probably would have thought the pulled pork was good, but not after having the steak sandwich.
The pulled pork was just warm and I don't think the pretzel bun lives up to the hype.
(maybe someone has had one that was good somewhere)

Some friends and I were having a hankering for wings, and with most of us being pretty broke, decided to hit up wing night at Kelsey's and try a couple different flavours. Unfortunately, the wings weren't anything to rave about. One friend tried the Honey-Garlic, the other tried the Black Pepper-Garlic and the Lemon Citrus-Pepper, and I went for the Ranch-Hot Stripe.

If I remember correctly, the Honey-Garlic were said to be not too bad. The Black Pepper-Garlic I did try, they had a very thick brown garlic BBQ sauce on it, which was the most prominent flavour. They weren't bad, but 8 wings would have been too much I think.

The Lemon Citrus-Pepper were essentially flavourless from what I recall of his verbal review. It sounded similar to the Indian Butter Spice I sampled last time (February 4, 2010), you could smell the lemon-citrus, but in flavour, they were pretty much a naked wing.

Finally, the Ranch-Hot Stripe. Perhaps it was due to my recent saucy delicious experience at Wild Wing, but these wings were pretty disappointing. First, they were pretty small, and the ranch "sauce" was dried on it, which could be because they were on the cool side by the time they got to me. The hot sauce stripe was a Franks Hot Sauce, but they only hit 4 of the 8 wings with the sauce, so I had to ask for an extra side of sauce...flavour was lacking - I wouldn't recommend them unless they were saucier and served up hot.

All in all, I've enjoyed other foods from Kelsey's and will visit again, I just wouldn't likely order the wings again.

Wing Sauce/Flavour: 2.5
Recommended Beer: I had a Keith's white, but think a Stella or even darker beer would have been great. My friend had a Caesar which also would have been a terrific choice

While I'm generally skeptical of large food chains' wings, I thought I owed a try to Kelsey's half priced wing night. The boast several flavours, from all the heats, Guinness® Barbecue, Lemon Citrus Pepper, Honey Garlic, Black Pepper Garlic, Sea Salt and Toasted Pepper, Hot Stripe Ranch, to Indian Butter Spice. I try to keep it interesting, so I opted for the Indian Butter Spice. This sounded something like Butter Chicken sauce on wings, which I think would be delicious...this is not what it was. The wings were crispy, and had a very mild spice to them. So mild that while I could smell curry on my fingers, I could not actually taste any. The one thing I will toast them for, is giving a ranch dipping sauce, as opposed to the usual sour cream you receive with wings in Ottawa. I ordered a Stella with my wings thinking it wouldn't overpower the flavour of the wings...another mistake on my part. My Wingman for the evening opted for a Buffalo Chicken sandwhich, which he enjoyed. I think I will try Kelsey's again, as I am intrigued by a few of the other flavours, but I'll be asking more questions about their preparation first.
Typical Prices 8 wings $9.99 16 wings $17.99, Half price night $4.99 and $8.99 respectively.

Wing Size:7.5
Wing Sauce/Flavour: 4 (Indian Butter Spice)
Recommended Beer: Something flavourful

Good food with plenty of selction. Nice family friendly atmosphere and good kids menu...however service is usually slow so count on spending more time than needed for dinner.

It may be just because of my selections, but I see Kelsey's as a great "known quantity" restaurant, where you can order something and know that it's going to be as good as when you got it the last time.

My choices: BBQ chicken pizza, buffalo chicken sandwich, and cracked peppercorn burger. I can't pick a favourite from among those three.

BARRHAVEN

We were here on Sunday of the long weekend, the restaurant was fairly quiet, figure a lot of people were out of town. The most action seemed to be happening in the bar area, so we chose to sit in there. Kelsey’s Barrhaven has decent seating in its bar area, besides seats at the bar, there are high-tops and roomy booths, the room is quite comfortable because it serves as both a Sports Bar (plasma tvs) and overflow from the Dining Room on busy evenings.

It has been about a year since my last visit, Kelsey's has made a few changes (corporately?). Of course we've all seen the new catchy tv ads with the Cheer's theme song, a great marketing scheme. But, they have also revamped their menu, and ended their exclusive beer agreement with Molsons. It was great to see Creemore Springs, Rickards (Pale & Red), Guiness and Sub-Zero offerings of Molson Canadian and Coors Light.

“The Man” ordered a Creemore Springs, and I had a glass of red wine. Kelsey’s has a short wine list, and several wines by the glass. One nice thing is their wine is available in either 6 or 9 ounce pours.

“The Man” ordered one of his long time favourites, the Sonoma Valley Salad. A bed of Mixed Greens topped with Fresh Tomato Wedges, Red Peppers, Cashews, Almonds, Raisins, Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds, Croutons and Feta Cheese. Topped with Cajun Spiced Grilled Chicken Breast and a Zesty Honey Citrus Vinaigrette. A very large salad, he ended up taking home leftovers. Not a big salad eater, this is one of his favourites.

I was hoping to order the Asian Salmon Salad, but alas it has been removed from the menu, and replaced by a similar salad (although not the same), the revamped edition features too many “California styled items” for my liking and mandarin oranges.

The new menu has a lot of choices, and many dishes sounded yummy. I finally settled on a Half-Rack of the Backyard Pork Side Ribs with Jack Daniels BBQ Sauce. I was a little apprehensive, because I love good ribs, but the server assured me I wouldn’t be disappointed because Kelsey’s Ribs are basically the same ones that Montana’s serves (a sister in their food chain). The dish comes with Coleslaw and French Fries, I switched out the French Fries for Mashed Potatoes. Everything was tasty, and the ribs were fall off the bone perfect, the JD BBQ sauce was yummy. I’ve had better ribs at other spots, but these filled my rib craving.

Overall a good evening. The service was friendly but not imposing. I will try to remember Kelsey's in the future when I am need of a adequate meal at a family restaurant.
