Foods from Greenfields Pub

There were 4 of us who met for breakfast this morning. We are seated right away at a table with drink rings on the table cloth. Takes forever to get coffee. There was no cutlery on the table. We finally get coffee and our orders were taken. A couple of us ordered Eggs Benedict so we were asked how we wanted our eggs poached. We both said soft. We sit and talk for quite a while and we ask for a refill of coffee. The second time we asked the waitress, she sighs at us and rolls her eyes...really? We finally get our food after about an hour but only 2 of us get our Eggs Benedict. The waitress stands at the end of the table and hands me my plate. She says's "It's a bit warm". As I grabbed a VERY hot plate, my first instinct is to drop it but don't want to drop it on my friends lap. One of my friends goes up to the waitress station to see if she can get some cutlery. She comes back with cutlery and my other 2 friends don't have their breakfast yet. They insist that 2 of us start eating. We both cut into our eggs and they are so hard that we thought they had boiled them for the hour it took to get breakfast. Everything was cold. My other 2 friends get their breakfast and theirs is cold too. I have never done this but we all decide just to leave and go to Barley Mow instead. I will never go back here. I read reviews last night after we planned on going to this restaurant and was very tempted to call my friends and suggest another restaurant but thought "how bad can it be?" Well....PRETTY BAD !! Scary to think they are still in business with crappy food and service. BEWARE !!

Very bad service, cold food; 0 out of 5 stars and 2 thumbs way down.

I would first like to state that My family and I have been eating at Greenfields Pub, on a more or less weekly basis throughout it's various ownership over the past 15 or so years. We are regular customers who know the staff by name, and have friendly conversations with the manager on our regular visits.

Today we went in for breakfast, which they are quite well known for.

When we arrived we were immediately greeted by the Manager, who seated us in the bar area, and offered us coffee and the next available table. We sat in the bar area and waited patiently for about 15 minutes. At this point the Manager began seating people that were waiting at the door. When we got his attention and told him we were still waiting for a table; he told us that we would be waiting for some time, and advised us to simply eat at the bar booth. (very uncomfortable I might add.)

another nearly 30 minutes goes by; we are not given menus, seated at a table, or even offered refills on our coffee:(

At this point we see some table opening up in the upper section of the restaurant; so I ask the manager if we could be moved to one of them when it became available, and he said yes. When the table was finished being bus'd we informed our server, and then moved to the table, where we sat completely ignored for a further 15 minutes.

Eventually, we received our food. Our order was 2 breakfast boxty, and an Irish Breakfast. What we received was 2 breakfast Crepes and An irish breakfast with stone-cold meat and eggs.

I approached the manager and very politely informed him that we had a serious problem with the service and food. The manager immediately said to me (and I quote); "You guys shouldn't have moved.", and turned his back to me, walking away. (apparently he was blaming us for receiving a poor meal).

I sat back down feeling very disappointed and angry. Eventually the server came to our table and gave us a bill, explaining they had docked 1/2 the cost. I was confused as I was still waiting for my replacement, hot breakfast... It was the wrong bill, apparently we weren't the only ones receiving 50% off for bad service today.

After receiving our proper bill with 50% discount, we approached the manager as a group to inform him that we would happily pay 50% for the boxties which were actually crepes, but we weren't going to pay for the cold breakfast at all. (would you?)

The manager once again attempted to lay blame on us for moving tables without informing him. (which is incorrect as both he, and the server were informed) And insisted that taking 50% off the total bill was more than adequate response to the lack of service. We tried to explain to him why were so upset, and he responded rudely, taking the bill from my hand, and never apologizing.

In conclusion; I have NEVER received such horrible service at a restaurant.

We are REGULAR CUSTOMERS of this establishment, and we were completely insulted by the way our fair, valid, and even politely stated complaint was ignored.

Needless to say, we will not be returning to Greenfields Pub.

I would recommended getting a breakfast pizza from the Barley Mow (delicious) or going to the Royal Oak, (stellar service!) as breakfast options in Barrhaven.

We arrived late on a Sunday afternoon, shortly before a scheduled Teen Coffee House was to perform (they have a regular stint a couple of Sundays a month). Points go to Greenfields for hosting an event that is good for community out-reach, (albeit noisy for the rest of us). Since renovating in 2007 Greenfields has been making a name for themselves as a music venue, now hosting musical acts 2 or 3 nights a week (Fridays and Saturdays typically), and Karaoke on Thursdays.

We sat ourselves, and were soon after greeted by a member staff. Asked for a wine & beer and 2 menus. The menus were brought immediately. Greenfields seems to have a fairly extensive menu, the usual pub grub, pizza and some main plates. Another member of the staff approached our table, to take our order (no drinks in hand). We explained we had ordered drinks, and were waiting for them… he apologized, but the first individual had ended their shift, and had neither got our drinks, or passed on the info. Ok, this wasn’t a good beginning. But we were understanding, and reordered our drinks.

Got the drinks in good order. “The Man” had a Beau’s, and I had a red wine – a Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile (they have a couple by the glass). Our food order came quickly as well. “The Man” ordered the Greenfields Signature Burger that came with fries. “The Man” said everything was good, except that the fries were a tad overdone (oil was dark). I ordered the Chicken Curry, unfortunately my meal had various issues. First I didn’t receive the starter salad as advertised in the menu. Turns out I had an “old menu”, and the dish had been changed to NOT INCLUDE a starter salad. But, the server was good about the whole thing, and recognizing that the mistake was theirs, and not mine, quickly returned with a salad. Known as a bundle salad, it had an interesting presentation, a lot of greens that was wrapped into a bundle with a sliver of cucumber cut longwise. The plate also had tomato wedges, red onion and alfalfa sprouts, served with balsamic vinaigrette on the side. Unfortunately, the greens weren’t the freshest… they were a lot of wilted ones. Crisper would have been better. The Chicken Curry was very tasty and served on a bed of rice with toasted naan points (this dish alone would bring me back).

Generally we found the food tasty (although there were some issues as noted above). The service was definitely iffy. We haven’t determined if they are now more focussed on being a music venue or if they still intend to be a music venue part of the time and a restaurant the rest of the time. We may try again just to see if they were having an off night when it comes to food & service, or if this is now the norm.

After a very long day, decided to drop in here late on St. Patrick's Day for a drink (and to meet my favourite Leprechaun ;-P )

The place was packed with Barrhavenites out to celebrate the Green. I had a glass of the House Red Wine (so-so). But I noticed there was lots of Green Beer to be had by the Pitcher and "The Man" was happy to discover they had Beau's on tap.

Since sometime in 2007, Greenfield’s has renovated and added a stage complete with a professional sound system, so they now host weekly musical events. (Evidently they expanded into the area of the mall that once housed the LCBO).

For St. Patrick's Day they had a 3 Band line-up. As we arrived so late, we were only able to see one, the "Lyon Street Celtic Band". They were very good. And the music wasn't deafening like other places so you could actually have a conversation (and hear yourself think!)

Didn't have a chance to try anything off the menu, but I think I will check out their musical line-up in the future and perhaps drop by again.
