I visited their new St Joseph location. It is in a old shawarma dig. It’s nicely decorated with friendly service.
I had the jerk chicken leg on rice and with a side of Jamaican salad. It was nice. It is not as good as the Island Flavour place on Bank street nuit fresh and a good portion. A thumbs up. My lunch mate had the ribs which looked really good!
Visited for the first time in January 2015. Tried the smoked pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and really enjoyed it. It definitely tasted smoked and the spiced slaw was good, neither astringent or too sweet. The fries were good too, though next time I want to try some of the other sides, which I hope is soon. Got a couple of bacon cookies for the road and they definitely hit the spot as well.
Came here for lunch today. We both had the burgers, me the bacon and cheese and he the monster burger. The burgers are very good, monster patties ( I couldn't finish mine) and a substantial bun that mercifully, did not fall apart. (Are you reading this, World Burger?). We also had the onion rings which were inexplicably dry and if that is the way they always come, I would not get them again. They are coated in cornmeal which personally I don't care for. They were also just shy of burnt. We also had an order of french fries and I don't think it is fair to comment on them because they were ordered well done - and arrived that way. I would like to go back and try some of their other items, particularly the ribs.
These are the 2 guys that owned La Taco Shop in Hull and decided to go southern and instead open Le BBQ shop in Gatineau. They still have a special on Thursdays were they make tacos.
Finally stopped by with a buddy of mine to pick up some BBQ. We ordered 1/2 pound of Brisket, Pullpork, Ribs and half chicken of Jamaican Jerk plus a side a mac & cheese.
I was glad to taste the smokiness in all the meats. Ribs were very meaty and not too saucy with a nice flavored rub. Brisket was dry. Mac & Cheese creamy but missing some seasoning. Jerk chicken was tender and smoky.
I would go back for the Ribs and Pullpork and the Burgers look really good.
Very cool spot, down to earth owners, and most of all, great food made with care. We were there on Monday and sampled the beef brisket sandwich, the 1/4 ribs and a large order of onion rings. I had never had ribs so meaty and juicy. The BBQ sauce is homemade and I must say I think it's better than mine. Now, the onion rings.... Oh my! I am told they are made fresh on the spot, they are everything I have dreamed an onion ring should be. Perfect crispy crust that does not fall off and seasoned just right. The dipping sauce that comes with it is equally delicious and is not an after thought.
These guys have found the perfect formula. Keep it up and please don't change a thing!
