- we ordered (my daughter and I) garlic cheese bread (two soft drinks) a veggie burger and chicken fajita’s
- the cheese bread took a good 20 minutes to arrive
- in the interim your manager visited our table at least twice to apologize and did mention both times she’d discount the bill
- the garlic bread finally arrived. As I had finished by diet Pepsi I asked for a refill
- the refill only arrived after we asked a second time (either the waitress didn’t care or she forgot)
- when our meals arrived we had no silver (knives and forks). We had to ask at least three times for silverware (no excuse for that)
- the waitress who clearly either didn’t like us or wanted to leave – brought us our bill while my daughter was still eating her meal.
- She never bothered to asked if we wanted desert and I felt it was pretty rude to bring someone their bill while they where eating their meal. Ironically finally quick service at the worst possible time
- The bill was never discounted. I didn’t see your manager and frankly it wasn’t for me to find her. She offered to discount the bill – and when that opportunity arrived she was nowhere to be found. She should have made sure the bill was discounted if that was her real and honest intention.
- The bill was $37.22 I left $40. The only reason I left any tip – too much of a hassle to wait for change for a waitress who clearly didn’t care
- Then I took the comment card to the cash and at least I thought I’d offer some feedback. Well I wasn’t surprised when there was no pen to fill out the card. What good is a comment card if you can’t fill it out?
- No I don’t want to return to your restaurant – would you if you where me?
- I thought Philthy McNastys had been voted Canada’s best sports bar. Love to know who counted the votes.
We dropped in here on a Sunday Night during the Olympics. We were looking to try out a new sports bar, and had heard that Philthy McNasty’s was a HUGE venue in Kanata worth a look. Our initial impression from the outside was quite positive, we noted the Sand Volleyball Court set mid courtyard between McNasty’s and the AMC Theatre across the way… (kudos to McNasty's as they were advertising a charity tournament) and thought “neat new concept”. The greeting at the door was pretty casual, “sit where you like”. The room is HUGE and divided up into 2 or 3 areas. We chose to sit in the bar area.
The bartender was friendly, and pretty knowledgeable of the menu. The menu is interesting in itself in that it is printed in a HUGE format, the one pager must be 18 x 24 inches in size. We each ordered a drink, I a glass of Canadian Red Wine, and “The Man” a Draft Beer. While chatting over what to eat, we checked out the décor. This oversized room features HUGE murals on the walls, including one that looks like a crowd at an sporting event, another of the Hockey Canada logo and some more for Ontario sports teams… one wall that definitely got a chuckle had the words “Maple Leafs Suck” painted in HUGE letters. From the ceiling flags and pennants from ALL the Canadian sports teams hang including the NHL, CFL and the Toronto Blue Jays. There are also some representation from Ottawa Teams like the defunct Renegades, and the new Ottawa Rapidz baseball team. There is no mistaking this place when it comes to Sports, this is their mandate. Where they do lose me though is in the mis-mash of things… for example they have one of those basketball hoop games, and there was musical entertainment (single performer) on the night we were there… very quickly the place takes on the personality of not a regular Sports Bar but a cross between a Kiddie Gymnasium and a University's Student Union Bar complete with the banged up furniture, scuffed walls and a distinct smell of spilled beer.
We ordered the Fajitas for Two, and they were extremely dull in their interpretation. And I didn’t understand that considering we ordered a Double-Order that only 4 wraps were given, we had to reorder twice (very inconvenient - especially as we had to wait for them each time)… and all the wraps were damp and clingy.
Overall this might be a fantastic place to see a Hockey Game, (especially one where Team Canada is in the World Finals or the Sens are in the last round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs)… its open concept is one where screaming fans can be crammed in shoulder to shoulder. But otherwise I think this spot lacks a definitive identity and would be most popular with a teenage / college crowd… and well their food isn’t going to bring me back anytime soon! All in all a HUGE disappointment.
