After a disappointing experience at The Foley House, we decided to head over to The Cove.
On first glance, The Cove appears to be not much more than an Country Inn, and in direct contrast to the atmosphere one would find at The Foley House Pub. However, once inside a multidimensional character takes shape.
The Cove features a variety of options, there is a formal Dining Room, a more relaxed seating area, a large bar (with stools) and a pub / piano lounge that hosts the weekly entertainment. At the rear of the building overlooking Westport Pond is a multi-level deck and patio.
We received a nice welcome from the hostess, and chose to sit on the deck. Our server was friendly and accomodating for our request to just have an afternoon beverage. She told us we could choose our own seat, as long as we didn't occupy any of the tables marked RESERVED for Dinner. By the looks of things, they were expecting quite a few cottagers and Inn guests to drop in for dinner.
The Cove has a decent wine list, and many are available by the glass. Although we had other plans for dinner, we did check out what other patrons around us had ordered in the way of appys and mains. Everything looked delicious.
Based on this visit, and the info on their website regarding Weekend Entertainment packages (Blues on the Rideau), we will be back!
