Black Pepper is an unassuming bar in the middle of Hintonburg. It has a couple of TVs at the bar, but is generally quiet and unassuming. The owners are Italian.
Personally I find that the food here is quite good, particularly the pizza. It is made with quality ingredients and is fresh tasting. The other food that I've had is equally good.
I'd recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a quiet beer/meal for a reasonable price in Hintonburg. Has character and I like the staff.
The owner remains that same, but this place got a face lift four or five months ago. The name has also been changed to Black Pepper. I have yet to try the food, but they have an interesting selection of beer and a fun karaoke night on Fridays.
This is a fantastic place if you're not too picky about atmosphere. It's fairly small and has a few TVs tuned to sports (one big screen, not HD) along with a busy pool table and a jukebox. The real draw here is the amazing, simple pasta dishes from the chef. For $8 or $9 you can get rigatoni in a spicy tomato sauce or ravioli that will match most places on Preston St. Plus, you can get a quart of beer to go with it.
The last time I was here, the waitress just let me and a friend keep the remote control so that we could switch back and forth between the 2 basketball games we were interested in (there was no one else watching TV in that section).
Yuuuuum
