Thai grocery stores [Food/Vendor]

I am looking for Thai grocery stores, not Chinese or other Asian stores that carry a smattering of Thai products. There used to be one on Carling just off March road but sadly, it has closed. Can anyone help?

Not just a smattering of Thai products but .... THE two stores for Thai products, including freshly flown in herbs and produce are Manphong Supermarket and Lim Bangkok.

Combing the isles in these two spots have given me a little culinary adventure.

Another fan of Lim Bangkok. I've shopped there for Thai ingredients since mid-80's.

Manphong is my go to, however outside of the fresh herbs/produce the Asian grocery on Hazeldean has most things we shop for (as do most asian grocery stores now). Is there something in particular you are looking for?

Hi Sourdough,

The Thai store on Carling carried a particular hot sauce that we really liked but for some unknown reason did not replenish the last time we ran out. We were remineded of the sauce when my SIL who is a fan of same, asked us to pick some up for her. She had gone to that Thai grocery and was the one who discovered it had closed. We figured T&T would likely have it but no such luck. We did check a couple of places on Somerest, but not the ones mentioned above and none of them had it either, hence this post. What doesn't help is that while we can picture the label, we don't know the name of it as it is in Thai. It came in a tallish bottle with a long straight neck and the sauce was more orange than red. Gold lettering on the label. Like a hundred others. It has a nice smooth heat and good flavour which is why we liked it so much.

I plan on checking out the above two but haven't quite gotten there yet. I did a Google search and came up empty-handed there as well.

felinefan, by any chance are you looking for the Thai sriracha shown here? It fits your description, except for the gold lettering... although the gold label peeking into the top edge of the pic might count.

If so, I buy it at BestPrice Oriental Market (the store sourdough referenced above).

I've purchased a fantastic Thai yellow curry paste there too. The shop is Viet-owned but it carries a good selection of Chinese/Thai/Filipino products and even some Japanese items.

FF thanks for this. I don't think that is it. The sauce I am looking for leans more towards orange than red. However, I will check that BestPrice out as well, probably on the weekend. If I find it, I will post a picture of it.

felinefan - sorry but I don't recognize the product you are specifically looking for. Sounds like you are in for a fun weekend asian grocery crawl. Plan to make something from it Saturday night - regardless of the outcome from your search :) BTW I think Grand Mountain makes 2 kinds of sauce - so it could be the same brand, but the other style (one is hotter than the other I think).

Well, FF, you were right, that is it. I went to Somerset Street today and Liam Bangkok had it. Strange how sometimes you remember something differently from what it actually turns out to be. Sourdough, you too are right. The Grand Mountain does come in two strengths - hot and medium and the one we got was the strong. It was the only one they had, which is just fine as that is the one we wanted. I still plan on going to the BestPrice Oriental market to see if maybe they have the medium as I would like to try it as well.

So thanks all, for the help.

Edited to add: we did stop at T & T and they don't seem to carry either of them.

Glad to hear it! I have the Strong one as well, and I don't recall seeing the Medium at BestPrice Oriental Market. I'll keep an eye out if I'm there before you!
