Thought I'd create a new topic to track this problem. So far, here's what I've been told:

* IE6 browsers freeze up for some people while loading a forum discussion (e.g. this page).
* It happens halfway through displaying the first posting.
* It only happens when the user is signed in.
* For those who are affected, it happens every time.

Since it only happens when the user is signed in, you'd think it would be pretty easy to figure out. I compared the generated HTML side by side and didn't see anything strange.

Any web gurus want to have a look? You can use this page as an example. Also, can anyone who's experienced this freeze up confirm what I wrote above and add any more details?

In the meantime I'll keep banging my head at this.

when using ie6 i don't have to be signed in, it just crashes every time when loading the first post in the forum topic.

thankfully at home i have ie7, just not as much time to read all the topics!

That makes it harder to fix then. I'm not giving up though.

Can anyone tell me the exact version of IE6 that fails?

Everything works fine for me using 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254.

I'll do some testing at home this evening if I get a chance. I don't normally use IE but I do have it installed on my box at home.

Looks like others have run into similar behavior and the cause is very hard to pinpoint.

I'm told the problem has now gone away. I'm guessing this is because I experimentally tried removing the navigation bar ("home buzz forum tags etc...") from the bottom of this page. That second navigation bar was the only major thing unique to this page. Too bad, because I found it to be quite useful. I'll have to find another way...

If anyone else experiences freezing or crashing, please let me know!
