Curry Paste [General]

2014 Jan 4
Does anyone know where to get relatively cheap curry paste (red or green)? For years I was getting generous sized tins (like a tuna can) at the Sri Lankan grocer on bank / james but they stopped carrying it. They were very cheap, like $1. I'm now paying $5 for the same size to get the Thai Kitchen brand you see at all grocery stores. I use curry paste A LOT in soups so a cheaper source would be amazing. Thanks!!

I guess it's easier to ask than search this site.

I guess it's easier to be an ass than helpful.

As my dear wife taught me, it is easier to catch flies with honey than with vinegar :-)

Bobby Filet, thank you very much for the link, the bottom picture in the thread is what I was normally buying and there seem to be a few downtown places that I can hit up. Zymurgist you are correct with your assessment, Bobby was helpful and I get the hint for next time. No need to be rude to newbies.

@Yuuuuum - How dare you. what do you think this is, a friendly public forum?

Anyways, I get mine at:
T&T - go to
Cedars
The Place next to the Sausage Kitchen, byward market location... if they have it the canned version is delicious, albeit salty.

I recall taking a cooking course in Thailand and the teacher saying "to make paste at home is not necessary, canned is excellent unless you are in Thailand and have access to the appropriate ingredients"

who knows if she was right. if you enjoy making it, that means something for sure(maybe).
