Samphire at Produce Depot on Carling Ave [Food/Vendor]

2013 Aug 30
Hi all: I just bought some samphire at Produce Depot on Carling Ave. It was labeled as salicornia and imported from Israel. I've enjoyed this in a few dishes in the past but have never cooked with it myself. Does anyone on this site have any suggestions on how it is best prepared? Thank you muchly :o)

soak it in water to draw out some of the salt. then you can either sautee it in butter or olive oil. or just slightly boil them.

OMG, I've been looking for Samphire in Ottawa for more than six years now! I'll have to drop in...

I know they had it last year too and it looked interesting but I had no idea what to do with it. Thanks Eastcoast!

Might not be there anymore, but they usually stock it every year!

I asked at the Seafood counter and they didn't know about samphire/salicornia, but turns out it was right next to the entry doors. They have a little section of exotic (seasonal?) items immediately to your left as you walk in.
