soda siphon as cream whipper [General]

2011 Feb 6
I was looking around yesterday for a soda siphon, and I wondered if one
could replace the CO2 canister with an N2O canister, switch the nozzle and make
whipped cream in it? Or does this defy the laws of physics in some way?

The whip cream maker draws from the top of the container. it is held upside down to operate. The Soda Siphon has a tube in the inside to draw from the bottom on the container.

It seems to me if you keep the soda spihon upright to dispense it should work 9in thery)

Best to shake the container (eitherone) before serving to distribute the N2O througout the cream.

The overall length of a CO2 cartridge is longer than an N2O cartridge...and a soda siphon has a thin dispensing tube so, even if the N20 cartridge fit, your whipped cream wouldn't come out nice & fluffy. You need a cream whipper. I'd bet C.A. Paradis/Chef's Paradise on Bank Street would have them. Alternately/better (!), I just did a quick search and, Kitchen Virtue ~ a member here on OF, has a selection of Mosa:

On other brands, I have an iSi soda siphon and it's a tank (i.e. in a good way). A good, simple, solid and (bonus) beautiful-to-look-at siphon...and iSi also makes cream whippers/whipped cream siphons.
