Bacon makes everything better. [Recipes]

Not much of a baker, but I'm toying with the idea of a bacon caramel
cheesecake.

Opinions on how to put it together?

I'm thinking bacon bits baked into the crust. Regular cheeskecake filling, and a bit of bacon grease in the caramel sauce..

You could try using bacon fat as the fat in the crust?

Could you candy the bacon and use it as decor for the top?

+1 on bacon fat for all of the fat in the crust! Pretty sure I patented that idea about 2 months ago for pie in general :-)

Bacon (as bad as it is for you .. so what !!) is extremely great when cooking a turkey. Gives the bird a great flavour and the gravy is great. I usually place 5 or 6 pireces on top of the turkey before cooking - the attached picture is a little over the top but you get the idea

;-) Yummmm ...Bacon !!

JDK, my mother in law does this. It makes the meat taste better but gives the bacon a poultry taste that I've never quite liked.

EnglishFoodie, I would suggest using bacon fat in the crust, as Zym mentioned and then using the (extra crispy) bacon bits as garnish. You could even attempt to caramelize them with sugar, though I've never done that before.

The Food Network bacon episode of Best I've Ever Eaten was pretty interesting. Bacon/maple donut! mmm.

David Lebovitz candied his bacon in this recipe (Heston Blumenthal also does something similar). You might want to consider candying the bacone for whatever you decide to do.

I've made a bacon and blue cheese cheesecake a few times that is really, really yummy. The best part about savory cheesecake is that it can be followed by "dessert" cheesecake! :D

oooh....bacon is ok in small quantities a very few times a year--Don't totally deny yourself but keep frequency/amounts low!

Bacon and blue cheese cheesecake!!!!! That combines three things that I love...yet, I have no idea how it would taste. I would imagine a small piece would be all that is needed. It must surprise you when you first taste it. I can't imagine that there's anything subtle about it...I'm curious though!

It's been awhile since I made it, but it contained ricotta, blue cheese, and romano/parmesan (depending on what I had on hand LOL). The onion in it really brought out the flavours.

It's very rich, but absolutely addictive -- hard to stop with just a sliver! Great leftover for breakfast. ;)

The recipe I used was more or less like this one I just found on Google: www.thatsmyhome.com

Substitute ricotta for the cream cheese, add onion. :)

Thanks for the advice everyone, the Cheesecake itself was okay, a little sweet for my taste but went over well with others. Expecially those who were almost too afraid to try it.

Also Medicinejar, the Candied bacon bits worked extremely well. So much so that I may just start packaging and selling them as the world's newest and greatest snack treat.
