Food in Commercials [General]

I'd often heard that food that you see in commercials is completely inedible, and had a pretty good reason as to why, but this is the first time I've ever seen it

That is fascinating! I was actually surprised to see that she used real meat, but I guess if it's being used for advertising a specific product they kind of have to.

There are also cases where they use totally fake food. More interesting reading here: photocritic.org

Talking fake food... we just got back from Japan and many of the restaurants have their menu on display in the form of "fake" plates of food. It is a great concept especially if you can't read the menu and you want to know what you are getting!! This was taken outside a restaurant in Osaka. We were told this fake food is big business in Japan.

foodntravel: I am from Osaka! I hope you enjoyed your stay in Osaka.
Yes, fake food is big business in Japan. I bought a fake beer in a glass for my husband,he keeps it on the desk at his office.

I am sure that beer gets a lot of second looks!!

We had a great time in Japan. My daughter in law is from Nagahama, which is where we stayed. We had a train pass and traveled around, Tokyo, Kyoto (a few times), Osaka, Hiroshima. We also spent a night in the mountains at a Ryokan. Amazing!

I saw a similar thing - I think on food network. One interesting point they mentioned is that they have to use the exact same ingredients as you would get in the store. I.E. the patty sizes have to be the same, the cheese has to be the same. I guess thats how they avoid false advertising claims. Otherwise the methods matched up with what is on the you tube video.

I love this kind of stuff. Saw this on TV years ago - apparently for turkeys they are real but frozen and painted to give it the golden colour! They then slice into the breast and use a hair dryer to cook the first slice so it looks fresh from the oven. Tried to find a video, but alas, none. Knew someone that made the fake foods too. Really fascinating how it's all done.

Okay this isn't "really" an ad but humourous nonetheless. The BBC used to broadcast a spoof documentary every year on April Fools Day. (It was also broadcast in Canada.) The "documentary" was about spaghetti crops in Switzerland and images of women picking spaghetti from trees and laying them out in the sun to dry: news.bbc.co.uk

Every year like clockwork people used to contact the BBC to find out where one can find these spaghetti bushes.
