Having read so many positive and great reviews from so many sources, my wife and I looked so forward to going here for high tea. Honestly, this was one of the biggest letdowns I have ever experienced. The service was beyond slow and inattentive. She couldn't care less whether or not we were there. The bread was stale. It was so dry, I had no idea if it was supposed to be white bread or rye. 3 of the 4 sandwiches had cream cheese; absolutely no variety. The lack of substance within the sandwiches was appalling. And 4 desserts? Really? We had 3 miniscule pieces. 2 quarter sized cookies and a crumb of a cake we couldn't recognize as it had no flavour. Bring your own napkins as they don't even offer you these. This was NOT high tea. The owner should be embarrassed about this kind of service they offer. If this is what people in Ottawa think is quality high tea, it goes to show that people here lack taste buds...and taste. The Chateau Laurier in the end is not that more expensive than this place, but the quality and quantity there outclasses this place beyond words. Never again.

I recently went for High Tea for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting this place to pail in comparison to High Tea at the Fairmont, but was impressed by the deliciousness of their pastry tower and the fine selections of teas. You can order some of the best teas in the world from this small tea shop (most notable the second flush Darjeeling). The food for High Tea consisted of cucumber with cream cheese, spinach with cream cheese, and tomato with pesto sandwiches. There was also a delectable scone with red pepper and goat cheese sandwich which stole the show. The dessert selection included a small chocolate Queen-Elizabeth-Cake-esque square, a lemon square (my fave), a lemon poppy-seed loaf, and a brownie (the most boring of the batch). The tea was more than enough to last the hour, and and as for value-for-dollar (about 12$) this place definitely stacks up to Zoe's. The service was quite charming as the proprietors seem to live in the same building; it was very entertaining watching the little daughter play around the somewhat empty tea room. I plan to frequent this place much more often than the Chateau Laurier for all my High Tea needs.

Very pleasant, quiet (at 11:30am on a week day) tea room in the Byward Market. A good selection of loose teas to choose from. Teas are served in two sizes: a generous single-person pot for $2.95 and a larger two-person pot for $4.95. They serve all the fancy coffee type things too.

Quite nice, and good for the price ($5.95 with a pot of tea), but served with canned whipped cream instead of the Devon cream you get with the $40 "high tea" at Zoe's lounge Zoé's Lounge.
