Recently had dinner on a a cold and very quiet evening. It was simply awesome. This quaint little restaurant is a well kept secret. I can't think of the last time I had a meal this good. The meal started with a fresh garden salad served with a small half quail. Delicious. The potage soup was freshly made with good ingredients. excellent. I followed that with a tender venison medallions in a what I can only describe as the best wine sauce I have ever tasted. The meat was properly cooked, moist yet not underdone and again obviously very fresh. Again Excellent!
The service was also impeccable. Good selection of wines.
This is a kitchen that cooks out of passion and not out of wrote.
A HIGHLY recommended diversion from the siege of fusion cuisine that has become standard fare in Ottawa.
Vist Le Sans-Pareil for a very special night out. I believe the menu changes frequently depending on the season. The food is quite exquisite and typically French/Belgium. Rich in flavour and sauces.
The servers are always very pleasant and the resto is in a small house which makes it very warm and cozy.
The resto often offers a special (appetizer, main and dessert). If my memory serves me well, sometimes the main consists of a few dishes -- usually of exotic game meats -- and is pared with various wines.
