Being downtown and hungry I finally got a chance to try this place! We ordered a Wonton Soup, Pork Wonton with Peanut Sauce, and the dry Pork Wuhan Noodle. The service was extremely friendly, fast, and the portions were large. Such a great value. Will definitely return to try other items (when I'm downtown).
This place is a dive and I love it. It's in a building that's "old Ottawa", pre-gentrified. The hot dry noodles are delicious; one of my favourite weekend lunches.
This place is a very odd setup being in the same commercial space as Bar Burrito.
We each ordered beef noodle soups and split an order of shepherd's purse dumplings and took them out for takeout. The containers were sealed flawlessly, Larry David would be proud.
Everything was delicious, with impressively large quantities of surprisingly lean beef and noodles. Dumplings were also fantastic, and I enjoyed watching the lady meticulously making them while we waited.
With this place and LA Noodle downtown, Ottawa has definitely stepped it's dumpling and noodle soup game up!
This is the epitome of a hole-in-the-wall gem. Run by a friendly but efficient older couple, this place specializes in hand-folded dumplings and satisfying noodle bowls. Prices are low enough and food is tasty enough to guarantee a dedicated following.
My generous Pork Wuhan Noodle bowl cost $6.95 and was dressed with a delightful savoury peanut sauce, scallions, and roasted peanuts. I added a little chili oil from the dispenser on the table. Yum!
The noodles were so affordable that I was able to splurge an extra buck for a nice soy-marinated egg. A little extra protein to keep me satisfied all afternoon.
The 3. Pork Mushroom Big Wonton Dumpling Soup ($7.95) was incredibly affordable, hearty, and delicious, as I've come to expect from this tiny restaurant in a hallway. Wonderfully warming on a cold spring day!
The Marinated Chicken Leg ($2) was super tender and pleasantly soy-salty. Totally unnecessary with this meal of course! :-)
The #2. Pork Shepherd's Purse Wonton Dumpling Soup ($7.95) was a satisfying bowl of tasty broth and ten large meat-filled dumplings. The "Shepherd's Purse" refers to the musty herb typical of wontons in Shanghai. This was my first time eating it and I found it to be pleasant but not spectacular. Certainly interesting to try though!
One day this week, I had the 15. Beef Noodle Soup ($7.95) for lunch. This was a generous bowl containing soft round noodles, gai lan (aka Chinese broccoli), loads of tender beef, and a pleasant light beef broth. Amazing value!
