After a beautiful fall family hike at the Morris Island conservation area near Fitzroy Harbour, I took advantage of our proximity to Arnprior and suggested dinner at the Antrim Truck Stop.

The daily special was roasted chicken with stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, coleslaw, choice of potato ("Would you like gravy with that?" "Sign me up!"), and mixed veggies with butter. This came with a dinner roll and butter, soup of the day (cream of leek and potato) with crackers, and a really nice coffee cake pudding (bits of cinnamon coffee-cake drizzled with custard). All this for about $14!

This place is awesome! It's only about 20 minutes west of Kanata, yet it has a real country feel to it. This is probably the most traditional diner I've been to in years and I found it warmly reminiscent of the many wonderful independently owned family restaurants along highways all over North America.

Dinners are around $10-$12 and come with excellent soup (plus soda crackers of course) and a plate with roll and butter. Pictured here was my Hamburger Steak dinner. My wife had the fish and chips, my son had a bacon cheeseburger and milkshake, and my daughter had a kids pogo meal (with drink and cookies). The total was under $42 before tax and tip. Love it!!
