It's a bright and clean restaurant tacked onto the side of the Denny's on Clyde. The menu features a wide assortment of Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese-style dishes plus an unusually large vegan section.
I opted for the AS01 (chicken) ($12.95) stir-fried vegetables and chicken on crispy noodles. What instantly struck me was the diverse and generous quantity of vegetables in the dish. The menu mentioned "lots of veggies" a few times and I think this is the feature that sets this place apart! Restaurants tend to skimp on vegetables because they're expensive, perishable, and often not as popular as other foods. The vegetable content here is like what I would do at home. Huge thumbs up for that!
Flavours were subtle -- not bland, but noticeably adjusted for stereotypical North American palates via reduction of funkier aromatics like fish sauce. They offer a range of spice levels, so I'd recommend asking them to jack it up if your dish warrants it.
My whole family enjoyed their meals here and we'll definitely be back.
I've tried takeout from this place a number of times. The quality and taste of the food, including the "vegan meats" is consistently above average. However, I feel like like the quantity/price ratio is way too small. I don''t mind paying more for higher quality, but for the same price you can get twice as much food from another comparable takeout place, and there is plenty of competition in the neighbourhood.
We went here for lunch today and were very pleased with the food. I had Tom Yum with chicken which was excellent and also had the Asian Stars Combo plate. This plate consisted of 2 beef satay, 2 nem (pork meatballs), 2 spring rolls and a mango salad with shrimp. The spring rolls were very good and completely grease free. The mango salad was very fresh tasting and I'd go back in a heart beat for the nem. I did find the beef satay to be a bit on the dry side and also slightly too salty for my taste. My DH had the spring rolls and the Singapore Noodles, ordered Thai hot. He enjoyed his food as well. The service is very nice and friendly and the place itself is spotless. We fully intend to go back. Sadly, they weren't very busy which was a shame because they deserve to be.
