THRU is not so secret any more. You can go and get your ticket on-line. Advanced ticket system only, minimum reservation for 2, max 6. THRU is a separate room on the second floor of Atlelier. I was lucky enough to win dinner here a few years ago, which was finally redeemed this year. I was impressed Chef Lapine still remembered.

So the experience - its a lot of fun. Somewhere around 50 courses that are shared. QR codes on the table to let you know what you are eating. Lots and lots of taste experiences. I can't even imagine the amount of work and prep to make this all go.

Having done this once, I'm not sure I'd do it again soon, but rather go for the more traditional Atelier experience. The food was mostly spectacular, with a few misses. There was so much, that the misses didn't really matter. What didn't work as well for me was the food arrived in waves, and it was up to us what order we wanted to eat it in. So something like "potato skins" arrived, and by the time we had a bite they were kind of cold. Did we wait too long? Did they come from the kitchen that way? These minor bits of confusion of what to do, when to do it can be a fun part of the dining experience, or cause some confusion, or second guessing depending on your personality.

Drinks/cocktails were creative, but I really could have gone for a glass of wine at some point.

If you are a dessert freak, probably about 20 of the courses were dessert based. Major sugar coma followed :)

A few pictures of some courses included here.

The location of Marc Lepine's upcoming ambitious 6-seat restaurant is still secret.

Here is the Twitter page: twitter.com/ThruOttawa

Marc has recently posted some gorgeous photos on Instagram that look like Atelier food kicked up a few notches on the complexity and uniqueness scale. It isn't a big stretch to imagine that these are sneak-peeks of THRU's potential offerings: instagram.com/marclepine
