Poutine Heaven! My first visit today and I had the traditional poutine - fries, curds, and gravy. The gravy was awesome, very flavourful and not too salty, and hot enough to melt the curds - these two things are key to the perfect poutine. And of course the fries should be good, as these were. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This was the best poutine I've had in a long time. I'll be back.
This was my first trip to Spuds Potato Bar and Poutinerie (Barrhaven), and I was impressed. I enjoyed the poutine far more than Smokes. I think it had a lot to do with using proper poutine gravy, that's not strangely seasoned.
I have a medium "Philly Lovin'" which has steak, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, cheese curds, fries and your choice of 4 gravies (beef poutine). I enjoyed it, except for the steak. I just didn't like the texture, nothing wrong with the taste. This is the second time I've had meat on a poutine and I haven't like either times, so it must be a quirk of mine.
I also had a hot dog, and was pleasantly surprised to see it on the pretzel bun! It was delish.
Had the Montrealer at the Elmvale acres location (one of the new locations) A friend had the classic. We were both quite happy with it. I thought it was really tasty. They have so many options so I'm really curious to try some of the other ones. I live right near so I def will be.
My friend had the large and I had the medium, was way too much for both of us. A large will probably feed 4 people, medium 2. A small is probably quite perfect for most people.
The large poutine was the biggest poutine I've ever seen in my life. It fed the Mr. and I with some to spare. And we stuffed ourselves silly. It was pretty good!
Spuds..... More like Duds.. This place is deceptively bad. You get big portions, but the toppings looked like they came out of a bag. The bacon was fake, the peppercorn gravy was watery and tasteless, the cheese curds were more like mouse turds that didn't melt and sadly they use Russet potatoes which made the poutine taste sweet and soggy.
Overall, terrible poutine... Overpriced hype, save your money there's better poutine in the city, this place is a gimmick.
Had a small poutine which was MASSIVE that had pulled pork, bbq sauce, gravy and cheese curds. The fries were good! poutine had a bit too much gravy for my liking tho, but thats just preference.Pulled pork was not fantastic.Staff was super friendly!! All together i liked the experience, except for at the next table there was (who i was assuming to be the owner) having a meeting with a manager, and they were arguing and speaking loudly about store issues. that kinda ruined it for me.i will be going back eventually tho!
