Stopped into the Panini Grill today at the insistence of my sister. She had been previously, this was my first time. I ordered a mini suicide chicken panini, my sister had the jerk chicken panini and her boyfriend had the louisiana panini. The toppings on these sandwiches aren't many, mainly chicken, possibly lettuce, and the various sauces. When you make sandwiches like this, you really better be sure your seasoning is right on. This place really gets it. My suicide panini was actually made with habenero peppers, and was not so hot that it wasn't incredibly flavourful. I took a few bites of my sister's panini, and the jerk sauce was really fantastic. It wasn't too "chunky" and was adequately spicy. Service was pleasant, and apparently they should have a liquor license in a few weeks. It's my new "go-to" spot in Vanier!
Was at Panini Grill Cafe on Oct 30th and the food and service were fantastic! Quaint little atmosphere for Montreal Rd, well portioned, flavourful, and great price.
I had the creole roasted chicken with rice mixed with kidney beans and spicy coleslaw. Everything was DIVINE! The creole roasted chicken was flavourful, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The rice and kidney beans were fantastic as well, especially when eaten with the chicken au jus that came with the dish. The coleslaw was HOT HOT HOT and absolutely incredible. This meal was better than the last two haute cuisine experiences I've had in Ottawa. Fantastic portions, fantastic service (huge glasses of water which are great and minimize on the refills!)
My boyfriend had the roasted jerk chicken. His sides were the same as mine, but his chicken was covered in a delicious jerk sauce. He was also raving about his delicious meal.
Our guest had the jerk chicken panini. Her panini was a fantastic size and stuffed to the brim with tender chicken breast coated in a lovely creamy jerk sauce. I tried a bite of her panini and it was incredible - definitely would order it when I come back.
Our server was helpful, friendly and sweet and the prices were very reasonable (in the neighbourhood of $10 per platter, $8 for the sandwich if I remember correctly).
Overall, a fantastic experience and definitely looking forward to returning! Their menu also offers a $2.75 two-egger breakfast with bacon or sausauge, which seems like a fantastic deal.
The Panini Grill Cafe is a new restaurant on Montreal Road (165 Montreal Road). The owner of this restaurant has been working with the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation at Carleton University under their program for Social Enterprises. After speaking with a professor I know, and being interested in supporting social enterprises I decided to stop by. This little cafe is spartan and currently does not have a liquor license. Also, the name is deceptive, as it is both a panini place and a great place to find some Caribbean food. My husband and I both at the Jerk Chicken, it came with rice and beans, lightly fried plantains and tons of delicious chicken covered in jerk sauce that was just the right amount of spice. The dish also came with a light sauce for the rice. For $6.75 a plate, this little restaurant must have some of the best bang for your buck in Ottawa. My husband and I left stuffed and satisfied (I couldn't even finish my plate). This restaurant delivers in terms of quality and price. The good news is that they also do take out! So, next time you need to grab something on the way home, it may be worth giving the panini grill a try.
