Called Toss it up fresh to go, the 20-seat space at 208 Sparks St., at Bank, is the creation of Linda and Joseph Price, owners of the popular P.J. Quigley's Bar & Grill opened in 2001 at 250 Greenbank Rd. in the city's west end.

In a few weeks, Toss it up plans to offer delivery downtown, within about 40 minutes from the time an order is placed by phone, fax or on the Internet. Delivery will cost about $1 extra.

(Delivery boundary will be approximately LeBreton Flats in the west, the Queensway to the south and Besserer/Nicholas Street to the east. In summer, Toss it up plans to have two Vespas on the road making the rounds.)

I wanted to mention that when this place first opened, I was working at the Running Room on Laurier. Someone from Toss it Up came in with a box of pastries and some menus. It was an obvious bribe :) but made a wonderful introduction to potential regular customers.

I actually have never tried it there, though. I mean to this week.

Had lunch there this week. The food was fresh, sizes great, and the price was right.

I went with the 'Triple C' - "Roasted chicken breast tossed with romaine lettuce, bacon, shredded parmesan cheese, lemon and caesar dressing with roasted garlic" - it also came with a salad.

A great toasted wrap with a lot of filling.

My dining companion had the East Coast Herb salad.

Great concept for those downtown.

Disappointing.

For a salad place, I expect the ingredients to be fresh and delicious. I have no problem paying extra for 'premium' ingredients, but I expect a decent portion size.

The salad I ordered (a make your own variety) was
a) too small
b) not fresh enough
c) terribly proportioned and
d) too expensive.

Specifically the proportion of 'premium' ingredients (read: stuff you pay more for like cheese) was very small in proportion - and considering you're paying more for it - it's not worth it. Plus the avocado in my salad (also a premium ingredient of very small proportion) wasn't ripe. I expect the avocado served at a salad place to be ripe. And all for $9! (and without any meat I may add). I know they're newish, so maybe I'll give it one more shot. But I won't be paying extra for avocado next time.

pluses: service was great - friendly, helpful staff, and very speedy.

Just had lunch here with the parents after reading Ron Eade's review of the place.

Not too bad at all..salads are fresh and the price is decent. Drinks are a bit pricey.

The presumed owners were there to greet us and explain the restaurant and the staff was very brisk.

even got a free sample of their homemade green tea ice cream- which was delicious.

owner noticed me looking for the recycling bin at the end of the meal and remarked that they are currently putting into place a system...it would be a shame if they didnt get on that soon though, since it is an organic and healthy restaurant.

will visit again.

ps- we had the red chicken thair soup ( good but a bit on the cold side)
mount olympus salad ( a chef's creation and at 8 bucks a pop is a bit steep for greek salad)
two custom made salads with chicken ( chicken salad topping was a bit sweet and the spiced chicken topping was a tad dry but tasty all the same)
