First visit since the makeover and name change. Visually, it's a little cleaner looking inside. The atmosphere is friendly and very blue collar Canadian. I see that as a plus for what is first and foremost a neighbourhood pub! Service is warm and no-nonsense, as is appropriate for such a place.

Upon entering, I noticed a faint smell of mouldy socks. I can't say for sure whether that's an attribute of the restaurant itself or of one of the clients at the time, but it made the time I spent browsing the menu a little off-putting. Once my food arrived I didn't notice the smell anymore.

I went for breakfast (see other comment) but will return for lunch one day to see if their Fish and Chips survived the makeover!

I've passed this place probably hundreds of times and have never ventured inside until today. The interior is pretty divey to say the least, and it looks like they are struggling.

I entered the deserted dining room at 12:10pm and was greeted with a friendly, "Sorry, we just finished serving breakfast." The intent was clearly to explain the 2 or 3 uncleared breakfast tables, but it instead highlighted the fact that nobody was eating lunch there...

That said, the smiles were warm and the beer was cold, and really can you ask for anything more? It's a Labatt shop, meaning you won't find Rickard's on tap, but they do have Keith's Red which will do for me. They also offer Guinness, Smithwicks, and Stella.

They're planning a makeover during the next few months, so in the meantime they're letting themselves go a bit. They will get new floors and presumably new furniture and a shiny new name, "Carley's Bar and Grill." That's a good thing, because the grime and dust have piled up pretty thick. Also, I just looked up the EatSafe Ottawa inspection report and it is quite impressive in its length. Stick to the fried food and alcohol!

My server explained that their busiest time is Breakfast, so I will have to try that one day and report back here.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Fish and Chips. The price of $10.95 gets you two generous hunks of crispy-battered haddock on a large pile of decent fries. The tartar sauce was good (yay no little prepackaged Kraft thingies) and the coleslaw was very tasty.

I would visit again for this dish.

This is all about quantity over quality! $5.99 gets you a huge plate of eggs, home fries, toast, choice of 2 meats (bacon, ham, sausage, bologna), and tea or coffee.

I asked for 2 scrambled eggs and received a mammoth portion of what I estimate to be between 4 and 6 eggs. Most likely they do their scrambled from a pre-blended liquid egg mixture, so "two eggs" translates to a generous pour. ;-)

The meats were decent. Two fat little pork sausages and two pieces of crispy (as ordered) bacon.

Home fries were nothing to write... uh, home about. They had an odd and slight flavour of plastic, but they were uniformly browned (deep fried) and were seasoned with a tastefully subtle hint of garlic powder.

The toast was thick and well toasted, with a generous coating of margarine. I had no need for the peanut butter or jam that accompanied it.

I ended up leaving about 1/3 of the egg, half the home fries, and a piece of the toast on my plate. I rarely leave food on my plate, but here I felt that the mediocre flavour didn't justify the consumption of excess calories.

So... Recommended if you want a big feed! Not so much if you value high quality.
