I tried the Pad Thai Chicken and let's just say there was A LOT of carrots compare to the chicken and noodles - maybe a bit too much. Yes, I could had went to an Asian restaurant that would serve a better pad thai dish than Casey's but there was nothing close to the Silver City.

The service was good but I wouldn't head back unless I was going to see a movie at the Silver City.

I wouldn't normally post a review after eating at a place like Casey's, but really why shouldn't I.

We ate there last night trying to catch a movie. This was an error on our part since it was St Patty's and the resto was packed to the rafters.

So we decided to forego the movie and put our names down for a table. It was my friend's first time eating there so I thought "er, why not?".

My beef with last night's dining experience wasn't so much the food. Sure, it's Casey's hence the expectations are not high whatsoever on the quality of the food. My take though is that when you eat at a place like that, you expect large N.American-chain-sized portions.

I ordered the turkey burger with fries and gravy. the burger was fine but definitely nothing to write home about (or rave in a review). The fries were fine. The gravy was sub-standard. My issue with the food last night was moreso the presentation. As I said, I don't expect much but do expect a plate with a big burger and piles of fries at a joint like that. Instead Casey's (I assume) is trying to be more modern and ecclectic. The burger(s - both mine and my friend) came out on small rectangle dishes. Uh, ok that threw me off. My fries were presented in a miniature fry basket (cute but completely out of context). Why pretend you are something you are not. Casey's is no Play, Absinthe, Juniper, etc. Just give me my order on a regular chain-roadhouse plate.

Anyhow maybe I don't eat at the roadhouse chains enough. Maybe this is the direction they are going to and I'm still old school.

Ok that's it. Enough ranting.

Food = ok
Service = ok

Having said all this, it doesn't mean I won't return. Casey's is easy and convenient, particularly if I want a meal before catching a flick.

I am not sold on Casey's. We go fairly often because Mr. Nanook's parents are regulars.

The things I like about Casey's: The service is very good and the staff are friendly. The ambiance has improved since they went for a more upscale look/menu. Their wine list is excellent with a good selection of Ontario wines - this is taking into account that it's a chain restaurant and all.

But I often find myself flipping through the menu feeling like there's nothing there that I want to eat. And their salad selection is awful... last week I ordered the Spinach salad and there were so many other things thrown in (hardboiled egg, feta, parmesan, bacon, deep fried onions, red peppers) that it was too much. And the shrimp was precooked from frozen then reheated on the grill. It looked great, just not fantastic to taste.

I have yet to try something that impresses me. There's always a little thing about a dish that puts me off, like using a chicken leg instead of a breast.
