Good butcher? [Food/Vendor]

2006 Dec 14
Hi all:

Having lost my favourite butcher, I thought I'd ask around to get your opinion on good Ottawa (preferably west end) butchers. I'd appreciate also your sharing any really good experiences you've had with good butchers. I'd rather buy my meat locally if possible. It doesn't have to be organic, but if someone has one to recommend, great.

Thanks!

I've heard that the butcher in Savory's at Bayshore is excellent and if he doesn't carry what you want, can either order it or direct you to another place to get it.

Thanks Tiana; actually the butcher at Savory's is Jerry Orlik, who used to have a butcher shop in Barrhaven. He is now based at Bayshore.

Cheers!

Oooo.. I had heard that Orlik's butcher shop was a great source for haggis. I wonder if Savory's is now the great source for haggis?

On a related note, we did try an organic beef roast from Savory's and were quite thrilled by it!

I was talking to Mr. Orlik when I was there last and anything he had in his shop, he can still get for you. He got me some nice fat ducks that were SOOOOOO good. He is the nicest butcher I have ever met. AND he can get organic turkeys! Too bad I live in Orleans and he's so far away from me....
